M60A3TTS -> Interdiction missions not getting intercepted (4/17/2019 2:29:48 AM)

Is there any particular reason why fighters would consistently fail to try and intercept interdiction missions? In my game with Crackaces, I have numerous fighter regiments on clear airbases in range with good morale and good leaders but they just sit on the ground. Range is set to unlimited, day missions are set, and air miles flown are like 0-2%. But nothing.

By range do you mean just inside their maximum range or very close to the bases. I know that airgroups have a separate AI interception range that is shorter than their maximum range. You can see this with recon in 8MP (there was a lot of it [:'(] ) and can still pick it up from the battle reports on the map but I never sat down to work out the exact formulas. But to give an example a MiG-3 might have a radius of 19, but the AI would only intercept at 15 hexes away - I am not sure of the exact numbers so this is illustrative of the principles only. So if the airbases are still at extreme distances from the desired targets could this be the reason?

Also in the case of interception staging bases are not allowed - so range and radius would be the same in this case.

What is the weather? Mud etc can reduce it a lot, but still you should get some sometimes ....

Have you checked fuel/ammo on bases? If you still keep fighters on separate bases and they are all on low miles flown then I guess it is not that.

What are the HQ ToEs like? If they have missing support staff this can reduce leader effectiveness - although again that should not mean nothing.

What is your fighter interception air doctrine? - if it is too high this can mean no interceptions. A low number number means lots of small interceptions, a high number means fewer but bigger interceptions. If you are getting no interceptions lower the number until you get some, and only increase the number (if you want bigger interceptions) if you are still getting some. However do not put it to 0% - I think this means no interceptions either.

Percentage required to fly needs to be low enough to allow your fighter groups to fly but I guess you have checked that already. There is no harm to putting it to 0% in your turn so long as you remember to put it back to your desired number at the end. If there are any air groups you do not want to fly during your turn you can do that with their air range cap rather than air doctrine.

Maybe the intercept rate was too high if that in fact can cause it. Eventually I did manage to get a few after lowering the number. Thanks.

Pleasure.

Now I have to dodge the court martial from Crackaces for aiding and abetting the enemy. I guess I am in the 8MP naughty corner. EvK can keep me company. [:D]
