obrien979 -> <RESOLVED>Recon Mission triggers Naval ASuW Mission (5/1/2019 5:00:29 PM)

I am looking for guidance on the proper procedure to have a recon aircraft (Global Hawk) fly over a target area and detect a Hostile target, which then causes a SSGN Submarine with Tomahawk missiles on board to fire at the detected target.

Currently I can get the Global Hawk to detect the hostile targets, but the Sub will not fire. I have the Sub assigned to an ASuW Land Strike mission with nothing in the Target list. The sub is currently creeping along at 5 knts and -120 ft and the weather is light middle clouds at 10k-16k

Side Note...Manual fire from the sub does work to launch the towahawks.

Thanks for any help

use an anti-surface (ground) patrol instead, it will engage targets in the boundary of it's prosecution area as determined by it's ROE and TLAM WRA as soon as they appear.

Gunner98 taught me this trick, it may possibly apply to you.

In the Mission Editor, there is a pull down menu that can be accessed next to a statement that says, Mission Triggers When target is Minimum.....and then then appears the menu.

If you gave your sub an active mission to attack, but there was nothing to shoot at, then there wouldn't be anything to attack. But, when your Global Hawk finds something, and it is determined to be "Hostile" (other status is also accepted), your sub should attack, if it possesses the available weapons and was allowed via WRA to do so.

I believe that this could help you.

You may also want to check the doctrine and change 'Engage Opportunity Targets' to Yes

This may have other consequences though.

You can also activate the mission by using the unit detection as a trigger

There are other ways in Lua should you wish to delve more into it.

Could you assign the targets to a strike mission using God View? Would that cause the sub to launch after positive ID?

Post a save file and we can give you definite answers

Not working!

That defeats the purpose of the test, but thank you!

I think I added the file correctly to this post. [&:]

To engage targets outside your patrol area, you must check 'Investigate contact outside the patrol area' in your mission 'SCORE Test 2'.

For your mission Strike 'SCORE test' you have selected the type 'Naval ASuW Strike', in this case your Sub engages only the ships. To engage the ground targets, you have to select the type 'Land Strike'.

And this time, I try both and it works.
