John S -> Two Questions (5/9/2019 8:48:34 PM)

Two Quick Questions. Over the last 60 days, I have been working my way through virtually all of the scenarios. Played a lot about two years ago, great to get back to it. Very well designed game, extremely enjoyable. Congrats to the designers.

1) Reinforcements - This is one of those questions that you have to ask just be sure sure you were not stupid and missed something. Example, playing as Nato my reinforcements arrive about two minutes into the 20 minute turn cycle. I have seen nothing to suggest that I can do anything to get them moving immediately after their arrival - have to wait the 18 minutes until the cycle ends and only then can I create orders. Correct??? (if incorrect, I have a LOT of scenarios to replay!).

2) US helicopters vs USSR Tunguska. Seems like something changed here, at least I don't recall this being this quite any issue two years ago. Seems like the USA helicopters, particularly the Kiowas, get shot from the sky by Tunguskas at just about any range and under just about any circumstances, including just simple deliberative movement pretty far from the immediate battlefield. I've now had the situation about five times where I simply want to move them from the south to the north and I even move them ("deliberately") way back to the west, then straight up north and before they can even turn east...well, they never seem to make it. At some point they seem to pop up into the Tunguska's LOS and then instantly they are gone. Is this pretty much everyone's experience? Any suggested approaches as to how to move, orders to issue, just to keep them alive on the battlefield? (My current tactic is to just move them behind the nearest hill and leave them there!).

1. Correct. There is no way in Red Storm to jump into the resolution cycle and issue orders to newly arrived units.

2. 2S6 is kind of a beast and locating and killing them should be a top priority before pushing helos to deep into their range. Also, remember that helos are basically flying one elevation layer higher than the terrain they are on when it comes to spotting.
