Lawless1 -> What did I do incorrectly (5/23/2019 6:43:47 PM)

Attempted to download latest Beta, but ran into issues.

Saved 1126b to WIPAE Beta folder. Fist download save game as Focus Pacific, attempted to run and got "Unable to find PW data" deleted 1126b download and retried changing path to C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\Beta2.

When running the program received the same error message. Deleted 1126b again. But now my previous download of 1125 is will not run, giving me the same "Unable to find PW data" error

Much thanks for any help

PW Data refers to PW Hex data which is a file that establishes everything on the map.

Custom maps, both extended and ones that apply stacking limits to all hexes require custom PW Hex Data files.

I played early versions of FP and can't recall if it used the extended map or not.

You apparently failed to download and place in the correct folder the necessary customized PW Hex Data file for the version of the map you are using.

Thank you Hans, for your reply

My bad forgot to say I am playing Scn#26 using patch 1125 for the last year. So all the maps are stock.

What I don't understand is how I lost access to the 1125 patch that I have been playing

I'm using the free version of WINZIP

Korvar -> RE: What did I do incorrectly (5/24/2019 6:22:14 AM)

From a quick search, I believe Focus Pacific uses the extended map - although there have been different flavors of it over the years, so perhaps there are stock map versions.

My guess as to what happened is that you didn't change the map data files (pwhexe.dat, pwzone.dat, and pwzlink.dat) when you installed Focus Pacific. It wasn't the beta that was causing the issue, it's that you were trying to use stock map data files with an extended map (or vice versa - you had extended map data files installed and were using the stock map). Keep in mind that the map art files are separate from the data files so the map may appear to have been changed, but it will not operate properly without the matching data files.

As Hans said, the 'unable to find PW data' has to do with matching the map data files referenced above to the scenario's map type, not which version of WitP:AE you're using. The beta patch executable file installs separately from the stock game (using the 'Beta2' subdirectory you mentioned), so you can still run the 'vanilla' game by running the .exe file in the main directory, even while the beta patch is installed. The error would still occur with either .exe file until you get the right map data files installed.

I believe the Focus Pacific mod uses the extended map data files from DaBigBabes - I'm not 100% on that, so double check. If so, you can get those files at the DBB site. The stock map data files can be reinstalled by installing the base game again (the primary installer, not the beta patch).

HansBolter -> RE: What did I do incorrectly (5/24/2019 11:27:05 AM)

When playing modded scenarios that use extended maps or full stacking limit maps the best way to structure things is to set up separate game folders for each mod with separate short cut links.

That way you can still play stock scenarios as well.

I have a stock folder, a Babes folder and a Focus Pacific folder, each with its own desktop shortcut.

I mostly play Babes based mods these days.

All that is required once the game is installed is to create a new folder and copy the entire game folder contents to it while creating a new shortcut to the executable file in that folder. Then you can download all of the necessary modded files into that folder without screwing up your stock game installation.

Korvar -> RE: What did I do incorrectly (5/24/2019 12:30:03 PM)

That's good advice. SeaBee can help with setting up multiple shortcuts by using the "Manual Browse" option to point to each install. [;)]

+1 to Hans

Korvar -> RE: What did I do incorrectly (5/26/2019 6:15:20 PM)

Errors in the game shortcut can also cause issues even if the map data is correct. You may want to create a shortcut using SeaBee just to eliminate that as a possible cause. Link in my signature.

Will give it a try tomorrow. Thanks

inqistor -> RE: What did I do incorrectly (5/27/2019 11:24:21 PM)

I'm pretty sure BETA installer actually asks where you have WITPAE installed (and it detects it automatically). Just click next, don't change anything.

My guess is, that because you changed path, BETA have overwritten your original PWHex, and now game doesn't work at all. You have to reinstall everything.

Korvar,

Thank you for your suggestion.

Attempted three time to get SEABEE downloaded to my computer
three errors, 1 fatal error, 1 missing file error and my antivirus deleted the download.

Inqistor

Thank you for your response, my game is working fine using the latest official patch (1124

Korvar -> RE: What did I do incorrectly (5/29/2019 6:26:12 PM)

Your AV is getting a false positive signature on SeaBee. You don't need to use the program itself (it just makes the process easier), as long as you make sure your shortcut properties looks like the one on the left:

In other words, make sure the "Beta2" isn't in the "Start in" field/path, only in the "Target" field/path. The example on the right will cause the PW error message, even with everything else set up correctly.

Lawless1 -> RE: What did I do incorrectly (5/30/2019 5:50:58 PM)

Korvar, thank you for trying to help. still having issues. Also my thanks to Hans, Kull

This download is from Patch 07 - Unofficial Public Beta - 1126b updated 17 Sept 2016
AEupdate1126b.zip (3.28 MB)

This is from the member only download

WarinthePacificAdmiralsEdition-UpdateComp-v1126a.zip (1.51 mb)
WarinthePacificAdmiralsEdition-UpdateComp-v1124.zip (105.5 mb)

When downloading any of the above, the target is C:\Matrix Games\Focus Pacific,

This is what is confusing me. It will of course create a new folder in the Matrix Games folder label Focus Pacific. I do not have the Focus Pacific mod on my computer. What is the correct target?

C:\Matrix Games\ War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\Beta 2

Plus I'm still not sure how I lost the 1125 update which I downloaded last year without any issues and have been using for more than a year. I suppose inqistor is correct in that the PWhwx files were impacted in some way.

Have restarted a game using the original with Beta 1124
