Bart,

It is going to be an interesting challenge...

A look at my missions.

Buckle up, brother :-)

MikeJ19 -> RE: Northern Inferno - Beware the Badgers (6/1/2019 4:58:11 PM)

Buckle up is right.

This is my first time with a carrier. Carriers are more challenging than an airfield as planes need to be elevated up and down to/from the hanger. I did not take a look at the location of the planes as I assigned my missions.

On the shot below, my planes are all getting ready - I do not understand why it is going to take almost 3 hours to get ready. The game is all of 130 seconds in. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Did you happen to change the load outs? If I recall when I played there were about 6 Phantoms ready to go.

MikeJ19 -> RE: Northern Inferno - Beware the Badgers (6/1/2019 8:16:03 PM)

Good question. I do not think so. I did not intend to. I will check.

MikeJ19 -> RE: Northern Inferno - Beware the Badgers (6/2/2019 1:03:55 AM)

I did not change loadouts. Oh well.

The battle is continuing as the staff tries to sort this out.

The Soviet bombers are closing in, and I find a sub...

MikeJ19 -> RE: Northern Inferno - Beware the Badgers (6/2/2019 1:15:32 PM)

The first air raid is over. Lots of damage done.

Looking at the air engagement, I think that I could have done a couple of things differently. I could have had the fighters use their afterburners right away to close with the Soviet bombers.

Also, I need to look at the locations of some of my CAPs - I need to make sure they are positioned far enough away.

Check the weather report and the time of the day in the cursor's black box.

Either clouds or darkness could be obstructing you from obtaining positive IDs.

Ancalagon,

Good tip, it may be cloudy. I thought that the other issue might be that my planes are flying too high to get good visuals...

fatgreta1066 -> RE: Northern Inferno - Beware the Badgers (6/15/2019 3:26:31 AM)

This is a brilliant AAR, so well thought out and organized, I'm enjoying reading it.

MikeJ19 -> RE: Northern Inferno - Beware the Badgers (6/25/2019 12:10:11 AM)

Hi Guys,

Life and such has gotten in the way of me playing this scenario over the last month. Also, I will admit freely, I am finding it very intimidating - trying to control so many different forces.

So, I have decided to try a couple more tutorials - to see if I can get better at actually commanding my air forces. I want to try things out and see if they work. Does anyone know if there are any good carrier tutorials? It would be interesting to see how to manage the air wing on a carrier...

I will get back to this battle. I have read/seen some other AARs on this battle, and I want to finish it, but I need to improve my understanding of air ops more!

All the best!

fatgreta1066 -> RE: Northern Inferno - Beware the Badgers (6/25/2019 1:59:00 AM)

I hear you brother. I was in the middle of Okinawa Bound from Chains of War and I got myself all hog tied, I've taken a break from CMANO for a while in fact, but I'll be back to it. I'll look forward to what you post here whenever you do.

Mike

Although not Tutorials the three scenario set by jmarso: 'Russian Civil War' is a good and relatively easy primer on CV operations. Haven't played them in years but from memory they ease you into the various aspects fairly well.

Keep with it, there is a lot to the game but you'll get it. These AARs are great.

You may enjoy chewing on some of the smaller community scenarios, Mark Gillis has created a bunch that are relatively small but tricky enough to keep the interest up.

MikeJ19 -> RE: Northern Inferno - Beware the Badgers (6/25/2019 10:13:41 PM)

Bart,

I will definitely keep plugging away. Thanks for the suggestion on the Russian Civil War. I only have the Northern Inferno game. Can I play the community scenarios?

Have a great evening,

CaptBeefheart -> RE: Northern Inferno - Beware the Badgers (9/18/2019 6:55:09 AM)

Mike: Very interesting AAR and I like the way you presented it. I'll look for anything else you post here.

Cheers,
CB
