There is a high casualty rate of teaspoons in short term rental properties - usually put down to people nicking the spoons to eat yogurt on the way to work.

I thought you Scots were good at counting the cutlery before guests leave. :)

I would suggest that the money spent on the teaspoons would have been better spent investigating socks. I cannot be the only person to suffer from only ever having odd socks available in the draw or that single unloved sock all alone and despairing.

I have a Theorem that when drawing socks one-at-a-time blindly, I will always draw mismatches until all the mismatches are exhausted. If I could only get funding to prove this! It would be a great step towards solving the P vs. NP problem.

I have a simpler answer to the problem. This is really true. I have all white socks. No study needed. White Socks is the way to go.

i showed my wife this who works in academia and she automatically recognised it as a joke - and several of the follow ups too - to me, it seems like a lot of work for joke and one that i would think few are going to read, but in her view a joke study like this doesnt take much effort at all

apparently also some academics/researchers etc get so sick of being bombarded with requests from predator journals that they do this to troll them

It has always been my goal as a scientist (IRL) to get a paper published in this prestigious journal someday.

you could say that, but i believe this is just researchers humoring themselves and if the public learns about it is incidental - anyone can view abstracts, but actual journal articles and papers are not viewable unless you are subscribed them - usually it is just insitutions that are subscribed.

scientific researcher humour is a bit too dry and injokey for me, some jokes i have seen are literally just formulas that only other scientists would get.

If they are ever trolling anyone it is usually the scammy pretend predator journals that spam their inboxes - the ones that pretend to be some important journal and that have no quality control at all -and some are so lazy that the publish the joke papers even when the submitter doesnt even pay the fee they demand (and not that they should)
