Will these work in our modern system, I have all three of them already

altipueri -> RE: GOG Original Combat Mission Series Released (6/5/2019 8:59:14 PM)

My old copies seem to work OK on Windows 10 laptops anyway - sometimes I need to alt-tab a bit when it delays loading the graphics. These are still my favourite goto game for an hour or two of quick random wargaming. Modern graphics - who needs it. They still run brilliantly on my XP laptops too.

Lobster -> RE: GOG Original Combat Mission Series Released (6/5/2019 9:33:42 PM)

I've had these forever. What difference would drm free make?

budd -> RE: GOG Original Combat Mission Series Released (6/5/2019 9:36:28 PM)

I have these all on disk also but last time I tried I couldn't get wide screen to work or find the no CD unofficial patch. If these work on wide screen I'll pick them up sooner or later.

ezzler -> RE: GOG Original Combat Mission Series Released (6/5/2019 11:07:01 PM)

just bought. CM3 working fine on windows 10.

rommel222 -> RE: GOG Original Combat Mission Series Released (6/6/2019 12:10:59 AM)

Greetings demyansk,
Yes these versions work on Win 7, 8 & 10.

rommel222 -> RE: GOG Original Combat Mission Series Released (6/6/2019 12:17:52 AM)

Greetings Lobster,
Some older retail copies such as CDV versions had some copy protection which Win 10 would not run.
Also, later BFC updates to the retail versions would require disks to be in the hard drive to run the game (angered me a lot).
If you have versions that already run then you would not need the GOG versions.

rommel222 -> RE: GOG Original Combat Mission Series Released (6/6/2019 12:24:12 AM)

Greetings altipueri,
I completely agree that the original Combat Mission games are a blast to play even though I own CMBN, CMFI, CMRT & CMFB.

RobS61 -> RE: GOG Original Combat Mission Series Released (6/6/2019 8:19:30 AM)

Great games.
Concerning the Game Details they list though, I think the release date for at least Beyond Overlord is wrong. They have it as January 11, 2001, when I remember with certainty that I was playing it on election day, November 7, 2000. I even remember which scenario I played. Looking at my CD for this game, it indeed has a copyright of 2000, not 2001.
I'm also under the impression that the release dates they list for the other two games are a bit early, although I'm not quite as sure about those.

demyansk -> RE: GOG Original Combat Mission Series Released (6/6/2019 9:44:31 AM)

I am going to buy the Cmbb, see how it works and go from there. I first will try my originals but I have them as an iso and I think I had problems.

Yup, so I was right about CMBO as having been released in 2000, not 2001. They did get the latter two game dates right.
No big deal.

Greetings budd,
Here is the link to the Battlefront forum thread on GOG CMx1 series release:
http://community.battlefront.com/topic/135138-cm1-gog/

Check the top post on page 2 for GOG version infocompared to previous ones.
Also, some interesting posts by Battlefront administrators on making it available on GOG.
Wonder if the original CM Shock Force and CM Afghanistan might be released on GOG at some point.
Battlefront posts they need at least double sales, to break even, if they release newer titles using online game platform.

demyansk -> RE: GOG Original Combat Mission Series Released (6/6/2019 10:39:57 PM)

I just bought CMBB and it works perfectly. It's also version 1.03!! The only thing that is different is:

How do I make it a full screen?

How do you do multiple waypoints? It doesn't work like the other newer games with the right click. If I wanted to use the move command I would click on M each time to set the path.

rommel222 -> RE: GOG Original Combat Mission Series Released (6/7/2019 12:04:26 AM)

Greetings demyansk,
There was a version 1.04 patch by Battlefront ($5) but not available for sale any longer.
Hopefully, Battlefront will supply it to GOG version soon.
Full screen is a problem since code was written when 800 x 600 & 1024 x 768 were standard.
There might be a way to do it but I do not know how on higher resolutions.

Possible solutions:

budd -> RE: GOG Original Combat Mission Series Released (6/7/2019 12:55:25 AM)

I bought CMBB also, unfortunately the sound doesn't work, i turned in a support ticket with GOG. It's probably a .dll file issue. I did get it to stretch to full screen. When the screen resolution choice came up at game start i chose the 1440x1020, i think that was the one. Then in the CMBB folder there is a utility called dxcfg, start that and you can adjust some video settings. Here's what works for me to get it to go full screen. I think disabling the aspect ratio and choosing windowed mode is what did it.

budd -> RE: GOG Original Combat Mission Series Released (6/7/2019 1:08:33 AM)

For waypoints just right click to set, left click only does one order. You'll have to hit the key corresponding key to the next order when setting multiple waypoints.

budd -> RE: GOG Original Combat Mission Series Released (6/7/2019 1:15:58 AM)

I was testing with heavy fog, i know some folks have had problems with that. If i can get my sound issue worked out i'll get the other two games and then start adding mods. I'd recommend the mod manager MCMMM, i did load a tree mod as a test.

rommel222 -> RE: GOG Original Combat Mission Series Released (6/7/2019 2:59:13 AM)

Greetings budd,
I got CM Beyond Overlord and CM Barbarossa to Berlin to be in full screen stretch mode using your suggestion.
I have sound for both with no problems. I would suggest a reinstall to see if that fixes the sound issue.
Now I need to get CM Afrika Korps next. Note that there is extra content with some mods included in the game folder.

Thanks for your suggestions and try the blowtorch scenarios for the Eastern Front:

budd -> RE: GOG Original Combat Mission Series Released (6/7/2019 3:20:24 AM)

Glad you got the full screen working. I'll reinstall after I see what GOG comes back with on my support ticket. I installed using Galaxy, and verified the cache but that didn't work.

rommel222 -> RE: GOG Original Combat Mission Series Released (6/7/2019 10:05:41 AM)

Greetings budd,
I do not use GOG galaxy, just basic download. I hope GOG support sorts it out for you.

Bamilus -> RE: GOG Original Combat Mission Series Released (6/7/2019 5:25:14 PM)

Do these games have linked battles or a campaign feature? I'm not interested in just one time battles but wondering if progress can carry over.

budd -> RE: GOG Original Combat Mission Series Released (6/7/2019 5:33:39 PM)

There are campaigns, been so long since I played one can't remember the format, regarding repair and reinforcement or map progress.

rommel222 -> RE: GOG Original Combat Mission Series Released (6/7/2019 6:19:14 PM)

Greetings Bamilus,
Yes there are campaigns as well as battles you can select in CM Beyond Overlord, Barbarossa to Berlin and Afrika Korps game menus.

Tons of user made scenarios and some campaigns too:
https://www.alternatewars.com/Games/CM/CM.htm

There are also quick battle generators in each game too and can be played as either side (axis or allies).

demyansk -> RE: GOG Original Combat Mission Series Released (6/7/2019 7:51:12 PM)

Where do we place all the scenarios again? Does anyone have this running on a 34" screen?

MrsWargamer -> RE: GOG Original Combat Mission Series Released (6/7/2019 10:35:05 PM)

The ONLY 3dish games I ever really liked.

I like wego as well.

What I don't like is my old disks that haven't even heard of Vista let alone several OSs since :)

I'll probably consider getting the GoG files. I like how GoG knows how to make things operate without a lot of geek knowledge required.

demyansk -> RE: GOG Original Combat Mission Series Released (6/7/2019 11:15:59 PM)

It's worth getting them, forget the disks, I have them all as well

Ranger33 -> RE: GOG Original Combat Mission Series Released (6/9/2019 12:13:57 AM)

I already had CMBO as it’s been on GOG for a long time. Might pick the other two up just for nostalgia’s sake. My journey into wargames began when I randomly picked up the CMBB special edition box in a games store in like 8th grade. That disc lived in or on my PC for the next three years or so.

I extremely regret letting my family “clean out” the computer room when I went away to college. Lost so many treasured CD’s from that era. Combat Mission, Mechwarrior 2, Baldur’s Gate, Starcraft, Freespace 2. The list goes on.

MrsWargamer -> RE: GOG Original Combat Mission Series Released (6/9/2019 1:24:56 AM)

I think I'm going to grab CM AK. The setting is 'different enough' and I never really got into CM, because it got left behind by never ending OSs for me.

I'm not so hardcore into 3d. I don't have much if any interest in the current state of the software design for CM.

It'll be more of an oddity I play when I want something not quite counter pushing.
