BigBog -> Couple questions on splitting formations and campaign 'reinforcements' /core units (6/5/2019 8:51:31 PM)

I have two questions:

First off--excellent game, really enjoying the DLC as Italy and Yugo. This sim plays very smoothly and enjoyign the realism aspects. For me, it's like CMANO for land warfare.

One Q: on subdividing a formation, such as a Tank Company--

1) Is there a way to designate a platoon of say 4 tanks out of my tank company and have it maintain formation/have separate SOPs, send it off on a separate direction? Currently I have been splitting them off individually (unattaching them)in a quasi-formation.

Next Q:

2) Is there a way when creating a campaign to add units after the first campaign mission is over?

I see I can refit and plus up support units, but find no way to add units or change units to my "core". I find this very unfortunate, as sometimes I'd like to change postures to a more defensive or offensive set--by switching out units. Some units are piss-poor in mobility and I'm looking to exploit with speed with the new mission--or increase my recon ability--can't do it with my foot infantry. Would be nice to swap out foot for some mobility, albeit a smaller formation.

For both of questions: No. I also wish if devs make both possible in the future.

Regarding your question 1), I wish they change current OOB to tree structure, make platoon as a minimum unit, and allow company / platoon can be separated from their own or can goes to other HQ. FPC-RS is a good example. This will allow a bigger groups like battalion available in this game.

Thanks exsonic-- I hope devs look at those as possible adds for a next patch.

Cheers!

Such company should lose -20% cost reduction because it would allow the human player a degree of flexibility that AI would never be able to benefit at the same scale. I guess that with some coding it would be possible to make company "parent" formation consisting of 3-4 regular platoons, but we would need to teach AI to use it better (to prevent piecemeal attacks, delays etc.) and maybe some new SOPs and even UI elements. Not impossible, but it would require quite more work than it might seem on the first glance.

My work around it is not to use companies but just use 3 individual platoons along with a HQ unit.

Which is how we envisioned the system, but I guess it gets quite troublesome with large scale scenarios.

But then you step up and use 3 Companies to make a battalion and manoeuvre them same way as platoons, one or two companies assaulting and one or two giving fire support or reserve.

Its all the same battle procedure but at different scales.

And its all down to the size of scenario that dictates formation size. Company action = platoons, Batallion action = Companies.

Yup, that is what I have started doing. Works well enough. I always assumed there was some sort of discount in buying a Co. I will do the math (addition) when I get home tonight. But this 'issue' probably not worth worrying about especially if there is no advantage to using a Co. vs. separate platoons and HQ....
