xwormwood -> Morale / National Moral influence on combat results (6/16/2019 11:09:36 AM)

Hi Bill.

What are your plans for this release when it comes to the effects National Morale & Unit Morale should have on combat results? Is there a chance that we will get an improved version of the former WW1 game?

I'm asking because of the starting phase of the game, when the AI usually started (no matter which side the AI was playing) with 130% values. At least if the human player decided to use the Expert difficulty setting.

This provided the AI for several turns a very big advantage in all combat results, no matter on which front, while the single human player got pretty bad combat results for a pretty long time, until the usually often extreme high AI losses reduced the National Moral value of the AIs nations.

I'm asking because I would favor starting values of 100% (and no matter why nor for whom values above 100%). Else it always feels like the AI is cheating, which kind of tainted the starting phase for me.

I would have no problem though if the AI would loose less much NM / Unit morale from combat, or if the AI would get here and there a little NM help through decision events. As long as the values never exceed the 100%.

Thanks for the post and we are indeed looking into something to improve this under the settings you've described [:)]

As I'm a rubbish player all round I always play with a non cheating (if possible) AI.

It's a blessing and a curse to be a rubbish gamer in all genres pretty much!😁

++ for this.

Starting at 130NM is cheating.

The AI if it falls below 75NM in 1914, can get 5 NM per turn for 4 turns to balance it up.
Similarly, if it goes below 50NM in 1915, again 3 leaps of 5NM each.
One leap in 1916 and none from 1917 onwards.

On the other hand, I wouldn't appeciate AI's NM to reach 0 in 1918 by a simply holding and defending player without reaching any major strategic goal.

For this release the NM country level bonuses (relative to difficulty level) are modeled differently. They can still be disabled at any time just as they could in the older WWI releases by going to Options->Advanced->Scripts->National Morale and then turning them off, but are not at the same extreme as they were in our older WWI releases.

For example, in the older releases they were one time large bonuses, up to 9000 NM bonus points, whereas in this release it is much more piecemeal and over the course of the game. In some cases, depending on level as little as 60 NM bonus points per turn etc. which might push NM from 100 to 101% and so on. This allows some minor help to the AI but not at the same one time degree as it used to be.

Hope this helps!
Hubert
