Aksully -> Is there a way to run WITP AE using Windows 10?? (6/18/2019 11:19:29 PM)

I'd be very happy if someone could tell me how to get the game to run correctly in Windows 10. When I open it up the start screen comes up in the correct resolution but once I hit Play Game it goes full screen low resolution. And if I start to move around the map pixels start to get blitzed double lines and such.

Please tell me there's a way to do it without buying a third party application bloated with Malware. Thx folks.

BBfanboy -> RE: Is there a way to run WITP AE using Windows 10?? (6/19/2019 1:27:19 AM)

The game engine is old and Win 10 does not work well with it unless you use switches to make it do so. See the Thread called "Slow Performance" in the stickied part at the top of the Tech section. It explains about switches (text commands) and where to put them to address issues like resolution, flickering graphics, slow scrolling, slow response to clicks, and more.
If you have difficulty after reading that thread, post again here explaining what you have tried. Screenshots will help if you can do them.

Thx BB I got it up and running now like a champ without issues my use of switches seem to work. I did receive this from tech support;

"C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -w -px1920 -py1080

This probably won't be to useful as I'm likely the last person to have recently bought WITH AE

Bravo! It's a rare guy who reads and understands all the tech mumbo-jumbo and is able to apply it first time out! I know I had to ask questions and it took me a while to work out the right combo of switches to use. Game On!

I'm surprised you don't need to use more switches. The game should be responsive - if you're experiencing any lag in the controls, there's a little bit more work to be done. That said, if the game is already working great, don't change anything.

There are other things you can do with switches as well, such as to auto skip the intro video. See my signature to download the SeaBee app, it can help you experiment with additional switches, if you wish.

FYI, you're not the only one to have recently purchased the game. The forum's halls may be stalked by lots of 'crusty vets' [:D], but I've seen multiple new players indicate they have picked up the game and more signalling an intention to purchase it or to start playing.

The -deepcolor (not sure if I am depicting it correctly as I seem to recall at least one capitalized letter in it) did wonders for me in reducing lag when scrolling.

I also like the -altFont as it removes serifs, which are a bane to tired old eyes.

Yes, the switch is -deepColor .

kaleun -> RE: Is there a way to run WITP AE using Windows 10?? (9/29/2019 10:18:08 PM)

What causes this?
This are my switches: "C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\Beta2\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -w -px1280 -py720 -deepcolor -altfont -cpu2

Running Windows 10 on an Alienware 15" laptop 8th gen Intel Core i9
The anomalous image goes away right clicking anywherre on the map but then returns on scrolling over a base, TF etc.
Any help appreciated.

btd64 -> RE: Is there a way to run WITP AE using Windows 10?? (9/29/2019 10:45:00 PM)

Looks like you have some sort of magnification thing going on as the image shows an increase in size. Other than that, I haven't seen this before....GP

Graphics issue.

Try this in your command line:

-dd_sw : Handles DirectDraw via Software.

Could this also be caused by a mismatch of pwhex files and the map artwork? (extended map vs stock map)

I don't think so. Looks like it happens over every base.???

but it might be a windows 10 issue of some kind.
I wonder if he has the latest Windows 10 update?

The graphics glitch is VERY similar to the Windows 10 "full screen bleed-through" bug, which also happens whenever the cursor triggers a mouseover display box. However, kaleun clearly has windowed mode enabled (the 100% cure for the bleed-through bug) and this display artifact is very different since it comes from the windowed game graphics.

As a test, I deleted my -dd_sw switch and it did not cause this graphics problem (although scrolling slowed to a crawl). Rather than guess, my recommendation is to re-do all your switches using Seabee.

kaleun -> RE: Is there a way to run WITP AE using Windows 10?? (9/30/2019 11:19:56 PM)

Thanks you guys. I'll try the -dd_sw first, and if that doesn't work will try the Seabee approach.
This bleed through happens in both my stock and my DaBabes extended map installation. It's not a game breaker, the bleed through goes away if I right click anywhere on the map. It's just very annoying when playing a big scenario

I think there is also a transparency setting for the Desktop setup in Win 10.

Also check that your Graphic Drivers are up to date.

I changed the switches and turned off the windows transparency setting, whatever that is, and it worked like a charm.
I'm so excited. I can now get rid of my old Windows 7 laptop and get an Alienware desktop. (jumping up and down in glee)

Good news!

You might consider Falcon Northwest if you have the cash.

They have built 3 systems for me over the years and never a single problem.
Their support is next to none.

It looks like the Mach V is sold out. No wonder.

Good to hear! I also felt relief and excitement when I got my switches working for the first time!

I got an Alienware "desktop" tower about 6 years ago. It is water cooled and weighs about 80 pounds. It does not sit on my desktop! Otherwise, it has been a great machine.

I have been considering an Alienware laptop next so I can take it on trips and continue to play and post here.

BillBrown -> RE: Is there a way to run WITP AE using Windows 10?? (10/2/2019 6:10:12 PM)

I'll put my favorite company in the mix also, Digital Storm https://www.digitalstorm.com/

kaleun -> RE: Is there a way to run WITP AE using Windows 10?? (10/5/2019 3:36:28 AM)

FYI it was not the windows transparency thingie, or at leasr not just that.
My second install, the dababes one kept doing the same thing until I changed the switches.
So it seems it needed both things, or at least the direct draw switcn

My old Alienware was only 40 lbs.
I got a Powerspec from Microcenter 6 months ago. Best price/performance on the market.
