Ok, I know this probably is a bit of a silly question but I can't quite seem to find the exact answer. I have the GOTY edition and Chains of War via steam. They show up as different games in the library. Is it still true that the Chains of War version adds functions not in the GOTY edition? If that is true, should I always just run the game as CoW and ignore the GOTY, is there any downside to that? Which sort of leads to the question if I actually bought the game twice (I had GOTY first, was it actually replaced by CoW?)

Thanks

COW is a stand alone sim whereas GOTY is the sim software that you can use to actually create scenarios like COW and/or play other scenarios. You won't be able to create scenarios in COW. Hope this helps.

That does help, go GOTY includes the editor which CoW doesn't. That is good to know.

But if I just want to play from Steam, does it matter which I launch from my game library, ie if I launch GOTY do I get the CoW version if that game is also in my library, or must I always launch CoW?

You will get the COW scenarios and features if you just launch the normal game as long as you own both on Steam. You don't need to install the COW standalone "game" either.

So, I bought Northern Inferno from Matrix. How does it work if I now go and buy the CMANO bundle with Chains of War on Steam. Would this be two versions on my computer?

Thanks

Its designed to all install to the same directory to save space on your computer.
