Arkham -> Played a lot years ago, questions about possible fixed bugs? (6/23/2019 12:43:56 PM)

Hey all.

I'm super happy to see that there is still development and patching for this awesome game.

I loved playing this, and setting up the raids, and I was saddened by a few issues that really seemed to bug me (huehuehue).

1: Oil plan did not seem to work: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/fb.asp?m=3655467

2: Ground combat was broken: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/fb.asp?m=3661581

3: Transportation to ground troops worked no matter how much you bombed: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/fb.asp?m=3642373

Have these issues been addressed? Can i effectively use an oil plan now, and will bombing ground units actually have an effect on the front lines?

(also, is there a way to get the old map back? The new one seems a bit muddy for me)

Hi Arkham,
Most of your questions can be answered from the 1.04 readme and some of the forum topics, but I can summarize some stuff here:
1. Oil plan was broken for sure but that was the first thing we dug into for 1.04. One important tidbit is that in BTR, oil has nothing to do with producing avgas for the LW. Only the synthetic fuel plants do that.
2. The dates of the invasions and the East front collapse have been fixed (D-Day falls on June 6) but those dates can never be impacted by pre-bombing which is WAD. The defense lines can be accellerated/delayed so pre-bombing the ground troops before the invasions helps win ground victories for the allies after the invasions take place.
3. Supply lines (i.e. the ability to replace troop damage) to the ground troops is still a little bugged, but supply is slowed if you plaster the rail along the supply line.

Let me add that there is still some work to be done on the ground campaign. Currently the dates that the fronts are broken will be accelerated/delayed only by a handful of days regardless of how much you think you are plastering the troops and supply. The campaigns have been shortened by 60 turns, and its still difficult to lose as Allies! I would like to add more penalties to the allies for ignoring the ground support game.

1.04 fixes and improvements emphasised the defensive play side of EDBTR which provides a whole new aspect of the game. Next patch we will try to fix some more bugs and add some features for the attacker.

By popular demand we included the stock map (ugh) and some graphics in 1.04.

Fantastic, thanks for the update.

I'm used to the old map, so change was scary for me :D

Glad to hear supply and oil has been fixed. Does the LW store their avgas in targetable oil storage, or is it part of the infrastructure of an airbase and not really hittable?

In BTR, avgas is stored in the "oil storage" targets as well as the synthfuel plants and the airfields.

Oil is stored in the oil storage and the oil refineries.

Thanks. One last question, how viable is an 'Operation Darkness' style plan, where I target the electrical grid? Would that work to shut down most industry, or would it have a much smaller impact?

We verified that electric power does permeate several other industries (per the manual) so that is a viable strategy indeed.
