OK, it looks like a chilling follow up to "that other movie" (not to mention the trailer for a EA game's DLC), but I admit that I'm curious.

Saw this earlier this week. Also, "Dauntless" is coming out soon too-there's trailers for that. Both look 'meh' with the CGI on "Dauntless" seemingly dated.

Tom Hanks' "Greyhound" comes out next March (2020). Haven't seen trailers for that yet, but I have higher hopes for a quality production with his involvement.

Maybe it's just me, but, somehow this looks like all it's bringing to the audience, is viloence porn. Graphically violent imagery. I'm unconvinced that this will be any real equal to the film I watched with my father so long ago in the theatre.

I just watched the much better Midway with my fiance the other night. THAT movie is the only 'Midway' I'm likely to want to see.

I'll reserve judgement on it until I've seen it, but the thought of Woody Harrelson as Chester Nimitz is almost as sickening as Alec Baldwin playing Jimmy Doolittle in the movie that shall not be named.

Still on of the best war-movie (not only as regards to WWII) ever. No thanks I'm done with these serial remake, reboot, prequel, sequel and so on... [:-]

Woody Harrelson is a good actor but I can't see him as Nimitz either. Looking at the trailer it would appear this movie is misnamed. I wonder if they threw in some Wake Island parts. Everything else is there. [:D]

People saying its not historically accurate - maybe, but trailer looks so. Disagreements between PH and Washington naval intelligence, Doolittle raid, Marshall and Gilbert raids, ensign Gay celebrating in the water, etc. Japanese CV's looked accurate from trailer. I'm sure the CGI with all the planes blowing up is a little over the top but I'm super excited for this.

The CGI looks very...CGI-ish.

I'll probably watch it on Netflix when/if it comes out there.

I mean it won't be perfect, but I guess I'm sick of watching war movies from 40-50 years ago that have aged terribly and have terrible actors. We've had some really good authentic and historical WW2 movies/miniseires in past 15 years: Hacksaw Ridge, The Pacific, Band of Brothers, Fury, Flags of our Fathers, Letters from Iwo Jima, etc. I'm not gonna settle for having to watch Battle of the Bulge from 1965 or Midway from the 70's just because people have nostalgia. Most old movies don't even use the right props; the Battle of the Bulge using US Tanks to represent Tigers was all time cringeworthy.

Agreed, not all old movies were awesome.

Not all 21st century films are bad.

But I'll pick acting over eye candy EVERY time.

Sadly, I've watched most of the great actors die off. They just ain't available any more.

Good points all, Bamilus. I agree.

Don't forget the vapid and self-serving (and totally unnecessary) love story in Midway. As well as the use of stock footage of F6F Hellcats interspersed with F4F Wildcats in deck landing sequences. Before the Hellcats existed.

Japanese planes strafed many civilian buildings on December 7th 1941 including the civilian airport and a sugar refinery. They might not have intentionally targeted these but many civilians died in Pearl Harbor so it's not exactly unrealistic.

Sorry but the Japs did strafe civilians. This article while it is taken from Luftwaffe pilots shows how much “fun” these Germans had in killing civilians, I am sure the Japs felt the same way.

War of this kind-spawns hatred in many forms.

The Japanese attacked sugar mills at Waipahu, near MCAS Ewa, and Wahiawa resulting in 5 civilian deaths and 23 wounded. None of those were from AA or ground fire of any sort.

They also strafed the Honolulu airport, John Rogers field, resulting in another civilian death.

I don't doubt this information, but can you provide a source?

The whole "the Japanese didn't target civilians in Pearl Harbor, they were too professional-minded for that" is a silly argument. Their actions resulted in the death of many civilians during the attack. Let alone the intentional civilian bombing campaign in China and their horrendous human rights record in occupied Manchuko / Nanking / Indochina / Philippines, etc., etc..

At best the Japanese were ambivalent towards civilian casualties that they inflicted. At worst, they were genocidal maniacs. There's nothing in their track record of behavior in WWII (and before) that makes me want to give them the benefit of the doubt.
