Hubert Cater -> v1.04 Beta - Manual Screen Resolution Selection (7/2/2019 1:40:59 PM)

We've implemented a feature to change the games screen resolution on the fly, but before we roll it out for the different Strategic Command games, we would like to ask you all to help us test it a little.

This update does nothing other than adding this setting. Your save games should be compatible.

Note: It is not possible to play in PBEM++ on the beta version.

Please let us know what you think and if you spot any issues.

1) To download, please click on this link below and then select 'Download' from the upper right hand corner of the Dropbox screen.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/3lwqlbazsseef6i/SC3%20WaW%20Resolution%20Test.zip?dl=0

2) Decompress the package, and copy/paste the game EXE and the Interface folder from the package directly to your root installation folder for the game overwriting the default files.

Typically, this folder would be found here on your system:

\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Games\Strategic Command WWII - World at War

Thanks,
Hubert

Damn, now you tell me after I started a parallel MP game with Christolos! I guess I could perhaps flip in and out of beta on Steam for MP and SP?

Mercutio -> RE: v1.04 Beta - Manual Screen Resolution Selection (7/5/2019 11:17:19 PM)

I tried the beta on steam. 3840 x 2160 is unplayable. The loading screen is cut off on the top and left and the menu barely fits. I load my last save and I cannot scroll or do anything.

Hubert Cater -> RE: v1.04 Beta - Manual Screen Resolution Selection (7/6/2019 11:40:02 AM)

Hi Mercutio,

Thanks for trying it and if I can ask the following it will be helpful in understanding the issues:

1) What is your default resolution? For example, what is the resolution of your desktop as this will tell me what resolution the game had typically defaulted to prior to you attempting 3840 x 2160.

2) Are you trying 3840 x 2160 in Full Screen mode? If not, does it make a difference if you try it in Full Screen mode? The other option is of course to see how it performs for you at 3840 x 2160 without Full Screen mode if that is an option.

3) Could you provide a screenshot of what you are seeing on your end? If so, could you send it to support@furysoftware.com

Thanks,
Hubert

Mercutio -> RE: v1.04 Beta - Manual Screen Resolution Selection (7/6/2019 3:19:08 PM)

My default resolution is 3840 x 2160. That is what I started it in for the beta. Regular play I swap it down to 1920 x 1080 so I can read anything.

I always do full screen.

I will download the beta again and take some screen shots as well as try windowed.

Thanks

Mercutio -> RE: v1.04 Beta - Manual Screen Resolution Selection (7/6/2019 4:02:34 PM)

Tried again, same thing. Even started a new game, locked up. There is no option for windowed. Fullscreen is grayed out and checked.
<edit> messing with it some more, I was able to get it to load 4k by starting the original in 4k first. However the menus were shifted to the right and none of the right menu was visible. So no way to end turn, etc.

When I exited it all shifted as I said before. The mid-range (2k?) was ok. It still needs another zoom level or larger menus and text for higher resolutions IMO.

Thanks for the hard work </edit>

Hubert Cater -> RE: v1.04 Beta - Manual Screen Resolution Selection (7/8/2019 6:37:45 PM)

Thanks, and are you by any chance running any scaling on the display, i.e. a 125% scaling setting or similar under the Display Settings for Windows?

Mercutio -> RE: v1.04 Beta - Manual Screen Resolution Selection (7/8/2019 10:54:31 PM)

Yes, both the resolution 3840 x 2160 and the scaling 150% are recommended for my rig

Tanaka -> RE: v1.04 Beta - Manual Screen Resolution Selection (7/9/2019 1:31:17 AM)

I would like to use the 1440x900 setting but full screen it cuts off the lower left unit and terrain info box. 1280x1440 can only be full screen and it just stretches everything. These are the only two settings that make things bigger for me but are unusable. Wish we could just zoom in and out on the map without the UI changing no matter what setting. Currently can only zoom out.

Hubert Cater -> RE: v1.04 Beta - Manual Screen Resolution Selection (7/9/2019 10:35:00 PM)

Hi Tanaka,

Thanks for the feedback and if I can ask, is your default resolution also 1440x900 or something different?

Also are you using the Windows scaling feature as well? If so could you tell me the percentage of scaling?

Thanks,
Hubert

My PC is capable of 2560X1440 but I keep my desktop resolution at 1920x1080 as it is easier to see. My scaling is at default 100%.

Thanks, this is helpful

I agree with that. It would be nice to have another zoom level

epower -> RE: v1.04 Beta - Manual Screen Resolution Selection (7/15/2019 5:43:32 PM)

Just got WIE and WAW after months of dithering...a week after the Steam sale expired. Oh well.
Loving WaW so far. The screen res change working without incident.

I must echo Mercutio and Tanaka's sentiments about an additional zoom capability.
I have a 32" monitor - native resolution is 2650x1440. At that setting, the large operational map is just the right size for getting the big picture but the close-in zoom view isn't quite enough for easy reading.
When I downgrade to 1920x1080, the large operational map doesn't cover enough territory, given the vast scope of WaW. In the close-in view, text is more legible and unit counters are big as life, but they appear less sharply defined. It seems a shame to have to sacrifice what are some pretty cool visuals just so I can see things more easily.

An additional close zoom level would be most welcome, especially for those of us who started on AH Third Reich and SPI War in Europe in the late 70s [8D]

Thanks for making a very cool game.

Merci d'avoir créé! Jeu très intéressant!

Hubert Cater -> RE: v1.04 Beta - Manual Screen Resolution Selection (7/24/2019 8:00:31 PM)

Just a quick update that the scaling issue should now be resolved and I've updated the link above for anyone that would like to test it again, thanks!

Mercutio -> RE: v1.04 Beta - Manual Screen Resolution Selection (7/27/2019 9:38:46 PM)

Ok, I can see all the menus in 4k! [:)] However the zoom and text is still too small and I would rather change my resolution to 1920 x 1080 [:(]

chopper66 -> RE: v1.04 Beta - Manual Screen Resolution Selection (9/15/2019 8:07:06 AM)

Gave it a go. I have 3840 x 2160 normally. Selected that in the menu with full screen and it appears to have gone for 2560 x 1440 as far as system settings is concerned. Only three resolutions show in the game settings. 3840 x 2160 and two very small ones (lower than the more usual 1920 x 1080.

First time I had scaling high, so I can see things in the normal game, and I tried to change this back while playing. Hard crash. I won't try that again.

For me, changing resolution isn't what I would like to see.

Rather, I would love to see another level of zoom in on the mouse wheel. Changing resolution would then be moot, for me.

ThunderLizard11 -> RE: v1.04 Beta - Manual Screen Resolution Selection (9/22/2019 4:49:24 AM)

Can you please change this back! My laptop is std HD 1920x1080 and your game keeps cutting it by 50% because my windows has a 150% setting. Can you just put it back the way it was before???

Hubert Cater -> RE: v1.04 Beta - Manual Screen Resolution Selection (9/22/2019 7:05:07 PM)

Hi ThunderLizard2,

This has been fixed and will be updated shortly, apologies for the inconvenience.

Hubert
