We know there will be Steam version soon, and update. I wish to have them soon.

Is there any big pictures / future roadmap for AB? Such as very rough next 1 year plan 2 year plan or something similar. We are all curious about when will be the next major game engine update for AB and what will be included, and what features are currently under development and will begin development or etc.

I just bought the game today after waiting sometime for it to come out on Steam. When released on Steam, please integrate any workshop and sales with offsite purchases.

Also, can this game be pushed more toward a modern era? For example: battles with Iran, formations in Syria and elsewhere. There are plenty of plausible scenarios that would involve multiple mechanized factions colliding.

You could make a map and faction mod for the region you mentioned. Map modding is not easy, but at least database and unit modeling has smaller hurdle than map works. But current AB game engine cannot support some features like guided munitions and hardkill/softkill APS, so most of the modding attempt should be limited to cold war, or ~2000s at maximum.

Understood. I have a lot of ideas and would like to push the game as close to the modern era as possible. I bought Command: Air/Naval Warfare a while back, but this is the first game that has really caught my attention. I played and modded for Sharpnel's Brigade Combat Team, Armored Task Force, and HPS Decisive Action back in the day. I've wanted to get back to that hobby and hope this is a good place to start.

I also see there is a way to redeem my purchase on Steam when it becomes available.

We are looking into diversifying combat theaters. It is very likely that next DLCs will go outside Europe, to Middle East.

As for expanding the time span, it will always certainly go towards modern times rather than World War Two (which I personally love, and I have already worked on such mod in past, but market is oversaturated and potential military clients would be more interested in modern simulation).

WW2 will be the only logical place for this platform to go to. Yugoslavia fighting Italians does not give anyone a boner. What a waste of development time.

I do have an issue with Asia: I don't have any familiarity with languages. I speak sufficient number of European languages to have at least basic understanding what I am reading, but Asian languages and writing standards are total unknown world for me.

Welp, can't argue with that XD

But I'm curious, what makes you requires to read & understand Asian languages? Because the most of the weapons are based on US and Russian technology, you could use the weapon info of US and USSR for most of the units for both Korea, China, Japan... Their tactical doctrines were also similar with major nations, at least within cold war time frame. Of course there are differences, but in big picture, one could find some similarities.

Also, as a last resort, you could rely on google translator. Or maybe you could find some help from forum.

WW2 has been done to death. A Cold War game should move on the Modern Era which will help keep this hobby fresh. Another Bulge game? No.

I'm OK with WW2 game based on AB format and system. Core code of this game would perfectly fits well with WW2, because nothing is needed to be added or fixed. But I guess devs are too busy with cold war era already, I don't think they have enough resource to invest for WW2 map and units.

Personally, I agree there are too many WW2 games already in the market. CMx2 engine has a lot of WW2 titles for example, GT series is also good one, and there are RTSs like Steel Division series and CoH series... But I also think that uniqueness of AB (15km x 15km tactical battle in WW2 base... you could truly reenact the battle of Prokhorovka) would still works for WW2 nicely.

I think WW2 in AB is a perfect modding effort target. There are some WW2 models and data in Yugo, and some nations in 1965~1970 use WW2 weapons. That might be a good starting point.

Maybe in the future, who knows? maybe devs try something like a map for battle of Rzhev or battle of Sicily or Caen or Falaise Pocket... But, until the moment when devs decide to go WW2, I think those can be tried from modders. Of course map modding is difficult, but worth a try if someone wants to, isn't it?

Hmmmmm I tried several Italy vs USSR games and one Italy vs DDR match in 85~91 time frame, it was absolutely crazy but fun. Not sure about "boner" part, but at least those games gave me the moment of tough tactical challenge, and moment of achievement time to time. But I also admit that it was mostly like fighting an elephant only with marshmallow. Yugo is already a good faction, just tried a one game of Yugo vs Brits in 1991, it was fun too but not like Italy vs USSR.

Hopefully it is Armored Brigade with new 3D engine, like CC Bloody first :)

This is certainly great news. Maneuver/formation warfare isn't dead. I would certainly pay for a campaign DLC covering the invasion of Iraq. I would like to make a campaign invading Iran. Other scenarios can be a war for Water involving Middle Eastern powers. A war in Korea, Taiwan, hell even an penetration operation against China. And that is just involving US forces. So I implore you to move forward in time and just give us the tools to use our imagination. I love building scenarios and working the community to make them challenging.

If it is Middle East for next DLC, I think Golan Heights might be the best one. Sinai would be a good but Sinai is too wide.

Some places in Iraq would be good for Gulf war and Iraq war. Iranian cities like Khorramshahr, Abadan, Ahvaz, and Mehran were places of fierce battle during Iran-Iraq war.

My choice would be middle East, as stated above WWII has been done to death, you've got Combat mission and command ops for that among a lot of others...

Wild idea that I'd love to see someday: from Armored Brigade to Air Assault Brigade, with the ability to insert and extract forces from the field as the battle goes on.

And Vietnam content to go with it, of course [;)]


(worth noting, of course, that air assault is every bit as relevant to Cold-War-Gone-Hot scenarios, too - so it'd be a great addition on top of what's already here)

Truth to be told, World War Two would probably require an addition of soft-vehicles / cavalry AI mechanism, and some other stuff like trench lines (the idea was to make them a sort of permanent structure similar to building, as it would be easiest to implement) if we were going to release it as an official DLC or a stand-alone release done well. Proper mechanized forces (for which AB is currently best suited) were fairly rare in World War Two, and plain infantry take hours to cross larger maps, and currently AI doesn't make much difference between an BTR-60 and unarmed truck.

Modern times probably require some more work (PGMs, UAVs, EW, active protection systems etc.) but it pays off better in a long term. The idea is to gradually expand those features as we add new content (heliborne landing at Mount Hermon anybody?) and then do the big step to expand the database. Of course, we hope for and will support people making cool mods :)

Why aren't trench lines in vanilla AB, though? Trench lines are still a thing as demonstrated in numerous modern conflicts. It's just that they no longer have the near-invincibility they had in WWI, but it was already a WWII thing.

Not a problem. We're talking about a situation where you have a regimental attack frontage smaller than minimal size of a map and IIRC task depth wasn't very impressive either.
