stretch -> Why no = indicating upgrade available (7/4/2019 3:10:58 PM)

Hi all, Just turned 1943 vs the AI (Jan 10), I don't see any US units showing an upgrade available "=" sign where it appears there should be.

Below are three screens of a US unit. The current composition shows US Cmbt Eng Sqd. The TOE shows US Cmbt Eng Sqd 43. The pool shows I do have '43's in the pool and it is NOT stockpiled.

Even if the upgrade would not take place due to supply levels, HQ range, etc, the equals sign has still been present in my experience. Why is it not there in this case?

Before you can get an upgraded device, the unit must adopt the new TOE that lists the upgraded device.
To adopt a new TOE the unit must be in rest mode.

Forgive me for what I am sure is a stupid question.

the TOE already lists the new device, it still has to sit in rest more before it will actually be allowed upgrade to those devices ? I'm not concerned that is isn't actually upgrading, only that the game is not listing the device as having an upgrade available.

FWIW, I put the unit in rest mode and ran a couple of turns; there was no change.

If the TOE has been adopted by the unit, you need enough supply and devices in the pools. Your unit needs 54 squads and only 33 are in the pool.

The unit does not have to be in rest mode.

Note that small bases get their supply and devices as little as once per week while larger bases get it more frequently.
Check the manual for how much supply needs to be on hand at the base supplying the devices - I don't trust my memory on that.

As BB points out, this is the specific reason why you don't see the "=" on the unit display. When you reach 54 in the pools, it will display. Then, when supply, reinforcement delay, etc are all met, they will upgrade.

Thank you very much, I just could not figure that out and it was driving me nuts.

Be aware that if any other unit that can upgrade to those same devices is also set to upgrade you will have no control over which unit the AI chooses to receive the upgrade.

To allow a specific unit to upgrade to upgrade while others do not, ALL others have to be set to not upgrade.

At a build rate of 24 per month, you are getting approximately 2 every 3 days and you need 21 more. Just about another month to go.

Just for a bit of clarity, the '=' indicates there are sufficient devices in the pool for the upgrade to occur. If not there the upgrade can't happen because there're too few devices to fill out the units' TO&E.

IIRC to just change devices the unit doesn't need to be in rest mode. The rest mode requirement is needed when the TO&E changes to add a new device slot, in addition there must be a command HQ within x2 of its range.
