Lecivius -> Strange little problem (7/25/2019 2:57:27 AM)

I just fired this up to start another game. In my new game, scen 1, 2, or any other, the combat animations do not take place. I get a message that BB SO and So was hit by a torpedo, I hear the explosion and water splash, but there is no visible splash. No Smoke. Nothing. So I started a saved game, and that works just fine.

Very strange. Thoughts?

I assume you verified the game settings for animations, etc for the new game you started?

F5 also toggles animations on and off - I hit it periodically when I want to hit F6 to toggle hexside detail on or off.

I toggled F5. I saw the little message that animations where turned Off/On. Neither did any good. Animations are set to On as well. I guess I will do a reinstall, if I can find my CD key.

If starting another saved game has working animations, then there is nothing wrong with your install. It's something related to the game settings for the particular save you are having trouble with.

I have occasionally lost the animations temporarily - they come back when you restart the game. As I mentioned in another thread, using CTRL-P to pause the game while animations are running seems to kill them.

So does accumulation of too much data in RAM which can happen if a game restart is not done for several turns. If the computer RAM is near full and the game turn execution creates a lot of new info to be saved (combat reports, damage levels, op report events, etc.) it seems to dump the animations it has held in RAM so it can keep the more vital info for the game turn save. Just my interpretation of what it is doing in the background, but it seems to fit what I have seen.

I checked. Any new game has no explosion animation. The screen shows, air combat shows aircraft being destroyed, but there is no flash or water spout for ship action. And no ground flash for air strikes on land targets.

It's on in preferences, both at the start of a new game and within the game. Very strange [&:]

If it is there, remove "-noFire" from your command line.

I'll be damned. Thanks Alfred! I have no idea why I have it there, or why it did what it did, but it fixed it!

I am also having the same issue but I am not using the NoFire switch? Any ideas what else could be the issue?
