epower -> Terrain questions (8/1/2019 2:27:55 AM)

Started down the rabbit hole of map modding and I have a couple of questions about the terrain.

Looking at entrenchment level and movement cost it appears that field = clear, and mountain/ hill with forest = mountain/ hill. Am I missing something here?

1. Are fields cosmetic or do they have different defensive/other values than clear hexes?
2. Does forest on a mountain or hill hex alter anything or it cosmetic?

Scoured the manual and did not find the usual chart of terrain costs for movement and combat. Perhaps I missed it.

1. Fields have a higher soft defense value (just +1 if defending against soft units).

2. It's just cosmetic, they will count as a Mountain or Hill hex.

Thanks Bill.

Working on a vintage style map mod inspired by WW2 strategic maps so this info is very useful.

Sounds interesting, I look forward to seeing it. [:)]

It might be awhile.
This started as a "how hard can it be?" to change major roads to a red color. Then I rediscovered McMaster University's digital map archive and thought it might be cool to play the game on the same type of Strategic Maps used during the war... and down the rabbit hole I went [X(]

Any progress ?
I was also thinking it would be awesome to have the maps that way presented!
