The map for this took a couple of years of part time work to complete. I used the U.S. Army topo maps from U. of Texas. These U.S. Army topo maps are not completely accurate for the time frame but close. They are an amalgamation of German and Soviet maps from the era so some things that were not there in 1941 are depicted in these maps and some things that were there in 1941 are not depicted. I used some WW2 German and Soviet topo maps too in order to get a couple of the main roads correct and will continue to refine using the German and Soviet era maps in an attempt to get it somewhat historically correct. I'm not fooling myself into thinking it will ever be 100% accurate.

Anything north of Leningrad will be represented in an abstract manner but will not be in play since at 2.5 kilometer per hex it's impossible to get everything from the tip of Crimea to much north of Leningrad. The same is true of the interior districts east of the Urals and the Far East.

The OOB has been taxing to say the least. On either side there are only a handful of units that had the exact same makeup. So I've had to go through virtually every unit to ensure they are as close as possible to the 22 June equipment they contained. The German panzer divisions were a nightmare. They were very short of armored cars so substituted cars, light trucks and trucks to make up for the shortage. Trying to determine what went where in the division was a real headache. Some of it I just had to make a judgement call. The other units weren't quite so hard because mostly they had no armored cars. I still have to do the Axis minors.

The Soviet OOB is also a great big headache. Many of the units such as PVO and NKVD are averaged out by how much was present in a military district divided by how many of a particular unit was there. The rifle divisions and mech corps are another story all together. Each division is completely different. So I had to make spreadsheets to enter the information for each one. Each non support combat division, brigade, battalion or company that was present 22 June has it's own spreadsheet. No two are the same. I almost have the Western districts done. Then I have the interiors and the Far East. And let's not forget the mighty Soviet Eagles. Oh and the Navy with it's myriad of minor boats to go along with the big guns. All of those type MO patrol craft with their 45mm peashooters. I might just leave them out. It's not like they did much.

So, that's where this is right now. Maybe I'll get it done before I die. [:D]

If you do finish it, I'll never play Larry again, he will be lost in that scenario for months at a time.

Wow, impressive. The bad news is that you've probably only finished the easy part...I would expect that the events will be a nightmare...

Aboot 5k units so far. Still have to do Soviet reinforcements too. Lots of Soviet stationary unless the Axis gets close.

Events will be 'fun'. [:'(]

Okay. Completed the Kiev MD. That was a big one. Some different stuff there. The Soviet Mountain Rifle Divisions. These guys are not like the ones you see in the West or the Soviet ones east of the Urals. There is no alpine training. It is a Rifle Division that someone decides will be a Mountain Division. Some equipment is changed but overall it's a Rifle Division called a Mountain Division. More horses, fewer vehicles, lighter artillery and four regiments instead of three but each regiment has fewer personnel. There is no battalion level HQ in the division and each regiment has five companies. The only reason I will give them a mountain icon is because they are lighter so presumably more agile in rough terrain. They won't be doing much fighting in mountains anyway. These guys have very little AT equipment. Okay in mountains but not where they will be doing most of their fighting.

Divisional breakdowns are as follows.

All German divisions will be regimental with individual battalion support elements.
Axis Allied divisions will be regimental with battalion support elements divided in the regiments. Separate divisional artillery.
Soviet Rifle Divisions will be regimental with support elements divided between the regiments except for the medium artillery regiment. That will be separate.
Soviet Tank and Mech Divisions will be regimental with support elements divided between regiments.

Virtually every Soviet division is well under strength. Some regiments have as few as 17 rifle squads out of 117.

I believe this must be the same ‘Operation Barbarossa, the Complete Organisational and Statistical Analysis, and Military Simulation’ map that I've been following for a few years now and thought would never be finished. Congratulations on this Herculean task! Are you going to be sharing this with us? Or at least let us have a look at it in full-scale. Things like this are what dreams are made of!

Finally have all of the Soviet starting units for all Military Districts done including the Internal MDs. After getting some updated information it's time to do the reinforcements. Bunches and bunches and bunches of reinforcements.

I'm going through the reinforcements. There are boatloads of them. Have the Rifle Divisions, Militia Divisions and Tank Divisions done. Still have every type of reinforcement brigade, battalion, regiment, headquarters and my old mammy's cook left to do. I have lots of time to finish. I'm not scheduled to drop dead for another six years. [:D]

And then there's the new stuff that Bob is working on that I'll need to pry into this somehow. He's already mentioned hierarchy and leaders. Then there's the ███████████ and the ██████ ██████████ and let's not forget █████████████████. It's all going to take some time.

Since I have so much time on my hands I'll just keep going it on my own but thanks for the offer. [;)]
