Ok, question 1, whats the max AC allowed on a carrier?

ASW Patrol as far as AC go
Is it Group mission ASW then naval search at 2k? or just a flat out ASW? -I hate you only get half the distance....and is the sweet spot 2k?

Can the restricted Mavis be released in anyway from the HI?

To kill subs near your ports:

ASW Mission
100 feet (or 1000 if the plane will not go to 100)
Max Range
Use bombs not torps, if that is an option.

To see subs as far out as possible:

Naval Search Mission
6000 feet
Max Range
Use Bombs not torps, if that is an option.

Naval search...
High altitude will spot large TF's.
Lower altitudes spot smaller TF's.

Q:The Manual says the actual ASW range is half of the normal range. if the ASW range is 5, What's the actual range? 3 or 2?

A: A general rule of thumb is that if anything is divided, the fraction is usually thrown away, so if you have a range of 5, 1/2 would usually be 2.

Please note the date and be aware that things have changed with updates but it is a good place to start.

Click on the carrier ship information screen. On the middle of the far right column it will show the ship capacity. You can get a little bit above this without impairing flight operations. I believe it's <10% above the 'max' capacity. When the number is red that's too many, orange is above capacity but doesn't interfere with flight ops.

If I want to try to kill enemy submarines, I will do ASW. 1-2k alt is fine. If I want to spot enemy shipping and rarely drop a scouting bomb on one of them, then naval search. 6k is about right here.

Nuh-uh.

Ian R -> RE: IJFB's a few refreshers needed (9/7/2019 1:51:53 PM)

Carrier capacity:

Max for ops is listed capacity times 115%

But...

If you put reserve a/c on, in addition to operating a/c, then beware.

If the reserves are pulled in for damaged planes they count against the max and you can go over into the red.

But 115% is just OK if you don't push reserve airframes into the groups.

Ok thanks guys.

As far as carrying planes as an aircraft ferry then launching them to a base, it is two times the capacity of the aircraft carrier. But non carrier aircraft carried this way are worth 4 aircraft and note that the first Corsairs are not carrier capable. So depending upon the scenario and modifications, this would include the Jack and George for the Japanese. The non carrier aircraft can launch but not return to the carrier so they can't do operations like CAP.

Formosa have the same HQ, as Japan. You can put there most restricted air units, getting lots of Southern China into range. Only Claudes, and 1E bombers have no range to be transferred.

Good pointers, thanks
