Hammock -> CMANO - CMO - WITPAD (9/20/2019 11:59:12 PM)

I was wondering if anyone had CMANO and WITPAD and could give me their opinion on the two games. I have never played a turn-based wargame before but I love the era of the Admirals Edition game. That is something I hope that CMO has as well. All the games have a hefty price tag and them and I'm just trying to think of which one of the best to purchase.

Hmmm, neither. These games are what we call the deepest end of the pool with a concrete weight attached eh.

You being new to turn based, I suggest you seek some advice on some titles that might be a little less daunting. There are several.

If you have never played turn based war games before I strongly suggest starting simple like maybe Strategic Command series. The Operational Art of War is great but it does have a learning curve but WITP-AD has a huge learning curve just to start.

CMANO is not turn-based and IMHO is not that complicated if you play small, simple scenarios to get up to speed. It is a great game if you are into modern naval warfare. The only caveat I would have is that they've just announced that a completely new version of the game will be coming out at some point (timeline unknown), so if you buy CMANO you might end up buying CMO at some point in the not too distant future (although the devs have said there will be some kind of discount for CMANO owners).

I don't have WITPAD but understand it to be very large, complicated, and detail-oriented. I would not start with this one. I would also not start with WiF.

There is a new game coming out soon on this forum called Warplan, might be a better place to start, check the forum:

Thank you all for the input!

I think they said that you could play the CMANO scenarios with the newer version too.

Yup been following that thread too!

What is this?

War in the Pacific - admirals edition

Hammock -> RE: CMANO - CMO - WITPAD (9/24/2019 7:46:08 PM)

What really keeps me leaning towards CMO is that it looks as if there may be ww2 included.

I play WITP-AE and love it.

I'm not very interested in CMANO because I'm not a fan of BVR combat.

Where did you see it may have WW2 included?

Hammock -> RE: CMANO - CMO - WITPAD (9/24/2019 9:07:26 PM)

Under the cmo series thread in the faq's. I'd post a link but it won't allow me.

Thanks,

I'll check it out.

If you go to Steam you can read about 500 reviews of CMANO.

Thank you!

I found a video of a WW2 set up on CMANO:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9j14ECLZao

I’m not impressed.
It does not have the WW2 feel that WITP-AE has.
Looks like an animated Excel spreadsheet to me.

If I was into Beyond Visual Range Combat
(My Electronic Sensors vs Your Electronic Sensors)
I might like it.

Check out this video of how WITP-AE runs:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvfldZrFGpc

They are both Hardcore games.

Well, you shouldn't judge CMANO as a WWII game because, well, it is not a WWII game. They included a few WWII ships and planes so people could play around with it, but the devs have made clear that CMANO was not designed for WWII combat.

CMO, the upcoming new version of CMANO will apparently be more WWII friendly.

And while CMO might also strike some as an animated Excel spreadsheet, it will also have some kind of 3D "TacView" functionality, so that might help with that (actually, it sounds like TacView is a separate license, and CMO will be TacView-compatible).

RFalvo69 -> RE: CMANO - CMO - WITPAD (9/25/2019 7:46:40 AM)

Regarding the “turn based game” topic, the OP could also consider War in the Desert. WWII Europe (but by Schwerpunkt, not by Matrix) is another good option..

This is the best advice I've seen in this thread so far. Keep it simple and cheap initially so you don't end up spending a wad of money just to find out you don't like turn based.

Hammock -> RE: CMANO - CMO - WITPAD (9/25/2019 2:18:53 PM)

I want to thank everyone on the thread for their input. I'm following the development interview for CMO and am waiting to see what they say their take on ww2 will be.
