I've been reading a fiction novel where the author says that the USN Bunker Hill class CGs (in the current time or near future) cannot operate the Aegis system in ABM and AAW modes at the same time.
Does anyone with more recent navy time than I have know if this is true? If so, can CMANO simulate this? Further, if it is the case (if only within a certain time frame), might the coming C:MO simulate this?

I've not been able to find reference to it in USN-related papers, or in any posts here.

Since the point has been raised in public domain fiction, written by a retired naval officer, I figure that it would be OK to mention it here in this forum.

1) This was true in early Tico & Burke BMD batches; IIRC Aegis BMD Block 1 to 3 had to switch between AAW and BMD mode, and the switch took several hours.

2) CMANO does not model this.

3) This has become no longer a factor with the introduction of Aegis BMD Block 4, which allows concurrent AAW & BMD operation.

Good to know Dimitris. Thanks.
