Antony Beevor's D-Day the Battle for Normandy. What are your thoughts? I'm reading it, but I also respect the opinions here on military history.

Only read his Stalingrad book which I enjoyed and I recommend it even to non grogs. Prefer it to the dry frontline volumes by Glantz. Though Jason Mark books top the list for me.

As for D Day one of my fav reads is Omaha Beach by Balkoski. The author has also designed wargames.

Cool, Wodin. I was trying to gauge how people thought about his accuracy. I can read it and say, "Hey, it's a good book." But I don't know how much accuracy he has or not. I have read it and it was pretty good.

It gave a lot of quotes and a lot of anecdotes from both sides. He criticized Montgomery a lot but he also criticized others as well. A lot of mistakes on both sides, I think, but I guess that is what usually happens in a war. Well, I shouldn't say criticized. He quoted others who criticized Montgomery, Patton, Bradley and Eisenhower.

Thanks.

Unlike say a,Mr Ambrose you can pretty much rely on Beever. He isn't one who has a bad name.
