Looking good. I do hope that any engine changes forthcoming for the Pacific will pe ported over to Warplan Europe (if relevant of course). That way we have two equivalent games, but only the theater differs.

Personally I hope it doesn't go that way. Pacific Theater is a different type of war and so a different game. From what I have seen of generic games they are less than the best ones that concentrate on a specific theater.
Warplan is modeled on play ability so many features of the game (like supply for example) have been adjusted to have the game work, not for historical accuracy. Tanks are queen of the battlefield in Europe, Aircraft carriers in the Pacific - how is that going to work if you use the same engine for both ?

As for the concept of having a combined game that merges both together that sounds like a recipe for something that could be interesting playing the AI but for HvH is just not going to work well.

MOS96B2P -> RE: Pacific Theatre (12/5/2019 1:59:35 AM)

Nice!!!

Profender -> RE: Pacific Theatre (12/5/2019 5:07:34 AM)

Thanks those screenshots look amazing

Essro -> RE: Pacific Theatre (12/5/2019 8:41:55 PM)

Alvaro,

Are you keeping ground units primarily at Corps scale?

Brigades for PTO?

Chocolino -> RE: Pacific Theatre (12/5/2019 9:11:53 PM)

Fantastic! I think scale is just right(since it was discussed earlier). Reminds me of "Empire of the Sun" - my favorite PTO board game.

Rising-Sun -> RE: Pacific Theatre (1/5/2020 12:11:14 AM)

The Pacific Map look great, looking forward to grab this once you get it going for the Pacific Campaign!

Not sure the level of it yet. This is not going to be WitP scale.

Meteor2 -> RE: Pacific Theatre (1/5/2020 6:51:02 AM)

Not WitP scale is what we are expecting, I think.
But nevertheless, the scale is different, of course.
Corps size unit in the ETO are appropriate, but in the PTO, we much more need divisions or regiments (famous SNLF units).
Only exeption is the area of China, were corps and Army size units are involved.

Here is a close up of Japan. There is still a LOT of work to be done on making the map pretty.

Amongst the things that could be done is making Japan island 2 hexes thicker at least. Also, it should be all forested hexes.

AlbertN -> RE: Pacific Theatre (1/5/2020 3:13:59 PM)

Japan seems awfully poor.

The scale is 50m per hex.

If that's so, then 2 hexes would be granted for the entire island of Honshu which is at least 100 miles wide.

Admirals Edition game of War in the Pacific, gives those 2 hexes to Japan and is exactly the same scale, 50 miles per hex:

Here is a shot of referred Japan's island

Scale is 2x that of European so it fits. The PTO is 4x the size of the ETO in reality.

You really don't want a game as large as ETO in PTO map. It is unplayable.

Making the Pacific the same scale it will link up with the ETO. So both theaters will be created separately then linked. You just can't create one single massive scenario on the 1st shot out. I learned that lesson with Brute Force in SC. Tie for 1st in most downloaded mod I might add. It is also in SC2 game that has AoC and AoD

Axis & Allies has 2 separate games;
- Axis & Allies: Europe
- Axis & Allies: Pacific

They are playable independently but there are rules to play the games combined.

The world game might be too hard to create an AI for but would be great for 2 or 2+ players....

Looking forward to additional Warplan games/updates as the game has a great balance as it takes many things into account (depth) but does not tend overwhelm the player with managing everything at a really detailed/low level or causing a tons mouse clicks (simplicity).

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Pacific Theatre (2/10/2020 3:44:26 PM)

Ok time for more teases. The music soundtrack came back from my composer. I think it is better than WarPlan's sound track. The guy is amazing.

Remember numbers and factors haven't been adjusted yet for the game. Right now I am writing the 1941 scenario.

PanzerMike -> RE: Pacific Theatre (2/10/2020 4:56:35 PM)

Never seriously played a Pacific strategy game. Looking forward to doing so though.

Edorf -> RE: Pacific Theatre (2/10/2020 7:32:09 PM)

I just bought WarPlan and it looks like I`ll have to get WP Pacific as well. Good job.

MagicMissile -> RE: Pacific Theatre (2/10/2020 8:10:18 PM)

Fast work looks like it will be finished pretty fast which is nice 😀
/MM

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Pacific Theatre (2/10/2020 8:42:32 PM)

There are still months to go. But I am hoping for late summer release.

Grimnirsson -> RE: Pacific Theatre (2/11/2020 6:02:09 PM)

So WP Pacific will be another game not a DLC/add on for WP, am I correct?

wesy -> RE: Pacific Theatre (2/11/2020 7:18:07 PM)

Wow-what a great map. I realize that this is work in progress, but you have KitaKyushu labeled on the map. The name of the city during WW2 was Kokura. Kokura was the primary target of the second atomic bomb, but cloud cover caused them to abort and drop the bomb on Nagasaki.

This is the current screen shot of the full map I am working on.

Alvaro, did you abandon Peters map scaling which better represents real distances?
The current map of the Pacific is more like a Mercator projection.

The Pacific is a similar issue as the European map but the Peters map is in reverse. Technically this map should be much taller unlike the European map which was shorter. Reason is that Australia is much larger than people thing it is and the Pacific much longer due to crossing the equator.

So to avoid carpal tunnel syndrome for my players I had to adjust the map in various places and go more of a Mercator map for ease of play.

So in Europe the top squeeze was good and the Med/North Africa lengthening was good.

But in the Pacific it was not. The map would be too large.

ncc1701e -> RE: Pacific Theatre (3/27/2020 5:32:54 PM)

Thanks for the explanation. I am wondering if one day you will plan a "world" game and, in this case, merging both maps will be an interesting challenge...

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Pacific Theatre (3/27/2020 6:51:31 PM)

Well that's why both maps are the same height. I am planning it. I just haven't decided how I will do it. Depends on the Pacific.

sveint -> RE: Pacific Theatre (3/27/2020 8:24:03 PM)

Any thoughts of doing a global game later? I much prefer it to a single theatre.

Yes later. I just have not decided how.
