Will there be a manual regarding the editor?

I'm starting to fiddle around with the editor. It appears to be quite powerful.

Some off the top of my head questions....

Can new unit types be created? For example, can I create an entirely new unit such as an artillery corps/division? Not talking about replacing an existing one, I mean a totally new unit type.

Are there limits to the number of units?

Is there a cap to the map size?

hypothetically, for example, let's say I wanted to rebuild Warplan at the division level. I would need to perhaps double or triple the size of the map and obviously create an enormous number of units. Would that break it?

Also, and just want to confirm what I think I'm seeing regarding unit breakdown...when a corps breaks down into divisions, it simply grabs the name of the next available division from the list. The broken down division has no tie whatsoever to the corps it came from, conversely putting the same previously broken down divisions back into a corps will most likely result in an entirely new Corps name, having lost any association to any previous name. Hard to explain, here's a made up example:

Let's say I take German 10th Corps and break it down into 3 divisions: named in sequence, 171st, 17th, and 201S divisions.
If I immediately reform them, the Corps will now be named 6VS Corps. 10th Corps is gone or I guess the name becomes available again for future builds.

Now, I go to a totally different corps, let's say German 20th Corps or whatever, and I break it down. Once again, as the names are available, the units will be 171st, 17th, and 201S. Then I immediately reform that corps and it becomes 7VS.

See that. Not a problem in a way that impacts game play but, there are more than a few of us OOB/MTOE junkies who will go crazy over this type of stuff.--Volksturm Corps being created in 1939 will send some of the more sensitive wargamers into a tailspin.

Any way around this?

For the record, the game works fine as is. In fact, I found the broken down divisions to be more of a nuisance than anything. But as I get into the editor I want to see where the limits will be.

There is a manual for the editor where the game folder is. In car answer rest later.

Thanks Alvaro!

I'll check into pretty heavily over the next few days. I hope the editor is kind to me. After which, if I still have questions, I'll post again.

The game is really quite good in my opinion which is probably clear from my other posts.

"Can new unit types be created? For example, can I create an entirely new unit such as an artillery corps/division? Not talking about replacing an existing one, I mean a totally new unit type."....

You can't change units on their attributes and of course their icon by modding the units.png. A unit is considered an armored unit if it has more tanks than anti-tank guns. There is no "artillery" or "anti-tank" unit because this is a corps level game.

"Are there limits to the number of units? "....

How many types is limited to what is available. I have 1 slot open for a naval unit that I haven't decided what to do with it. Land is fixed, air is fixed, naval is fixed slots. So say only 4 air unit types are available.

"Is there a cap to the map size? "...

max strength technically no But I would stick to just modifying things not creating some 50 strength panzer super corps. The formulas are fairly balanced for how it is now. You can modify but completely changing the rules would mess things up. You can change it's label at well like div, corps, army, battalion, etc.

"div game"

You can.

"divs into corps and vice versa"

2 divs make a new corps name as does a small corps splitting into 2 divisions

1 div into small corp doesn't change corps name
large corps splitting doesnt change corps name.

No way around this.

Is it possible to change the turn length by the editor? Going from 2 weeks turn to 1 week turn?

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Editor (10/26/2019 9:29:21 PM)

it is.

Great thanks!

Sounds interesting. Just bought the game. Looking forward to exploring the editor to see what it can do.

The editor isn't easy nor making a game from scratch. Even when I did Brute Force for SC2 it took me a while to figure everything out.

Essro -> RE: Editor (10/28/2019 11:09:17 PM)

can tech be adjusted in the editor?

specifically the name of tech or who gets what

I think there needs to be a modders section on the forum.[:)]

I have been playing around with the editor for a couple of days now, trying to make a naval mod, I can add new named groups easy enough, my problem is how do you place these new named groups on the map before running a scenario? The groups appear in the deployment column as ready. I know that Battle Groups represent 2 Capital ships, but I feel that the map can easily cope with every battleship being named individually, with a destroyer screen.

The German Pocket Battleships Deutschland and Admiral Graf Spee were on patrol in the Atlantic at wars start, why are they not in the Atlantic at the start of the 1939 scenario?

Also in the Mediterranean France has a Battle Group named Clemenceau she was never completed, so how is she on the map in September 1939?[&:]

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Editor (10/29/2019 12:19:18 PM)

You have a field called "build queue date" below the Unit types. Set the date to add to the queue.

To add a unit on the map pick the type, the name, or enter a name, the strength (labeled health I have to change that) the experience, the effectiveness, the advancement, and the advancement year. Now left click on the map. In the upper right there is Quit and Hotkeys toggle.

If there is an OOB issue post it as a separate post please.
