Okay, for game number 3 I decided to go Nazi and push some panzers, which is generally not my thing, but hey, sometimes you gotta push panzers.

As of November 1941 I own: Iraq, Persia, and the Caucus oil fields (along with all of the Soviet Union west of the Volga more or less. The USSR is down to scraps and has a smaller army than the UK now.)

So I have all the oil in the world. Wonderful! What I don't have: enough of an army to sit around to guard rail lines from partisan attacks.

I cannot possibly guard all of this stuff. I can guard *some* of it. So I figured the 70 points in oil in Russia is more than fine, and Iraq and Persia can rot. I have most of the Turkish army and about half of the Italian army sitting on rail lines now. But no oil is being delivered!

The rail node through Rostov is still under repair and maybe when it comes online that will do the trick. But I have a completely functional link through the Turkish rail net leading to Baku and the rest of it, and yet none of this oil is coming through. What's a panzer pusher to do?

Save available upon request. (I consider this game won and am not going to play it out until the bitter end. Am already pulling back Wehrmacht units from Russia as is to form a central reserve to bust any allied landings. The Soviets are effectively done. And nobody has any oil except for the Americans.)

I have noticed people bitching about the lack of a formal Soviet surrender, and imo, the game is fine as is and I wouldn't change a thing here, btw.

Imo, the Soviets were never going to surrender. But you can effectively knock them out of the war by crippling their economy and their army and then just leave enough in the East to keep rump USSR at bay or, heck, even push all the way to the edge of the map if you really want to. (But this is going to require more garrisons for partisan duty and is not really worth it imo.)

So this Red Army fan boy is happy with the game treatment. The Panzer Pushers want some kind of award taking the usual three objectives of Leningrad, Moscow and Stalingrad because Panzer Pushers are very silly traditionalists when it comes to these things. But this game is won on *victory points* and if you hold on to all this stuff and the rest of Europe besides, you have it in the bag, regardless of the lack of a formal Soviet surrender.

So leave it alone, please. This is exactly right. I applaud the design here.

+1 agreed.

Also, I think the partisan menace can be managed, despite all the complaints I've seen about this.

You are going to have to use the Axis minors for this duty and build a bunch of German infantry divisions besides this, but it can be done. You may have to choose to let some stuff hang (like I did to Iraq and Persia, but I could've chose to guard those in lieu of the Caucuses.) You don't need to respond to every partisan incursion, either. I came nowhere near tapping out on German manpower here, either, I can keep building infantry divisions to the moon or near enough.

So leave the partisans alone, please.

Capturing enemy resources damages it. So it takes time to repair.

Flaviusx -> RE: Logistical bug (10/30/2019 4:52:29 PM)

Just checked my save, and this does account for some of it, but some of these oil fields are fully repaired and not delivering any oil despite the rail connection.

So Baku won't deliver any oil before it gets fully repaired? That could take a while. I've held it for months and it is still only at 26/40. I'd think you could get some oil out of here at whatever level it is repaired at rather than nothing at all.

Flaviusx -> RE: Logistical bug (10/30/2019 6:04:39 PM)

Ok never mind, I got your email and saw that the oil doesn't show up in the trade screen because it is considered domestic production once you connect it. Doh.

+1 for Flavius-take on USSR non-surrender. Agreed on all points. :-)
