TheOttoman -> Question about GEO Sats (11/7/2019 10:30:07 PM)

This may end up in the database thread...

I have a question about satellites, specifically platform #37 DSP [Satellite Early Warning System Blk IV] (United States - 1984). Numerous sources state that these are in geosynchronous orbit, but DSP 13 and 14 seem to be orbiting around. I've uploaded a save file with these to explain it further. I'm not sure if this is expected or not. Also, I've found further information about the entire constellation to help with placement and lifetimes.

According to Jane's Spaceflight Directory 1988-89 (pg. 400), three are deployed over 69E, 70W, and 134W.

Also, according to Jane's Spaceflight Directory 1998-99 (pg. 18-19), the locations for the following satellites:

Block I
DSP-1 = Launched 6Nov70 26,070 km x 36,050 km 7.8 degree inclination Lifetime ~1.5-3 years
DSP-2 = Launched 5May71 0.1 degree inclination. Put over the Panama Canal Lifetime ~3 years
DSP-3 = Launched 1Mar72 0.2 degree inclination. Put over the Indian Ocean Lifetime ~3 years
DSP-4 = Launched 12Jun73 Lifetime ~3 years

Block II
DSP-5 = Launched 14Dec75 - deorbited 18Dec75
DSP-6 = Launched 26Jun76 - replaced DSP-3 over Atlantic, moved Mar81 to 75E on standby. Removed Mar85.
DSP-7 = Launched 6Feb77
DSP-8 = Launched 10Jun79 - Removed Aug86
DSP-9 = Launched 16Mar81 - Removed Apr88
DSP-10 = Launched 6Mar82
DSP-11 = Launched 15Apr84 110E Removed 1992
DSP-12 = Launched 22Dec1984 152W Removed 1995
DSP-13 = Launched 29Nov87 37W Operational as of 1998

Block III
DSP-14 = 152W Partially Operational as of 1994 - cannot see smaller missiles due to thermal control failure
DSP-15 = Launched 13Nov90 100E Replaced DSP-11 Partially operational as of 1994 - cannot see smaller missiles due to thermal control failure
DSP-16 = Launched on STS-44 69E (replaced DSP-14) Fully Operational as of 1994
DSP-17 = Launched 22Dec94 37W Replaced DSP-13

I've included as much as I could about all of the different blocks in the constellation namely because I'm limited in a Desert Shield scenario that I'm working on.
