apd1004 -> [Logged] Save Game files UI problems (11/24/2019 3:18:52 PM)

I have four issues with loading saving games and loading saved games. Not bugs but UI friendliness issues. I am using the Steam version of CMO.

1. I cannot "save as" when playing a campaign game (Chains of War is what I am using in my example). The "save as" option under the file tab is greyed out and the only option is "save" (ctrl-S), which automatically saves the game file with a file name like:

"4c5eedf6-2522-46d3-90b6-395152e8abb1.save"

This is not very user friendly because I should be able to assign my own file name to it. For some reason however, I am able to "save as" when playing a standalone scenario.

2. Campaign save files mentioned in #1 above are not listed in chronological order, they are listed in alpha-numeric order when I go to "load scenario" tab in top menu. If I happened to save two games in the same date-time stamp, I have no idea which one I saved last/first. I'd like to be able to do a game save titled "pre-AGM84 launch" and another one right after it maybe "post-AGM84 launch".

3. I cannot delete save game files from within CMO, the only way I see to do that is to manually delete them from within the SteamLibrary folder using File Explorer.

4. There is only one autosave file for the entire CMO program. If I happen to be bouncing back and forth between two campaign games like Chains of War and Northern Inferno, the autosave will overwrite the previous autosave which may have been my last save from the other campaign game.

Thanks

Hey apd1004,

I'll address these individually.

1 is working as designed; it's to prevent cheating. The game details will be shown in the load campaign dialog.

2 Good point, I've added a feature request for this

3 Same as 2

4 Same as 2

Thanks for the feedback!

1. Aww, c'mon man! Don't look at it as cheating, look at it as comparing different outcomes.
2. Sweet!
3. Same as 2
4. Same as 2

One point: You can indeed delete campaign saves:

However, you cannot currently delete standalone-play saves.
