Nethog -> How to use Amphibious Transports? (11/25/2019 10:08:48 AM)

The Amphibious Transport icons don't light up for any of my land units beside a port - how do I use Amphibious Transport?

Hi Nethog

If you right click on a land unit* then providing there are Amphibious Transports available then the option to embark should show.

You will have to have enough MPPs and there must be space in or adjacent to the port for the unit to embark.

Hopefully that makes sense, there is covered in the Manual too so if you get stuck take a look there too.

* Not a Garrison unit though.

Also make sure you have declared war on that country sometimes as Japan that is not as clear.

BillRunacre:I have read the manual but that didn't answer my question. I am confused by your statement "providing there are Amphibious Transports available". I can create a regular Transport by clicking the Transport button and the unit moves into the ocean morphing into a ship icon. There is no need to first create a "Transport ship". Don't Amphibious Transports work the same way? My problem is the Transport icon lights up on the command bar but not the two Amphibious Transport icons. I have not tried changing the UI to use the right-mouse button command interface instead of using the command bar. Perhaps I need to research the first level of Amphibious Warfare first?

Hi Nethog

If you can put a unit in a regular transport but not an Amphibious Transport then it suggests either a) the Major country the unit belongs to isn't fully mobilized and at war or b) the country has already got its maximum number of units in Amphibious Transports.

Perhaps start a Hotseat game of the 1944 campaign and right click on the US HQ (Patton) in Plymouth in the UK.

When doing so, the option to put him in an Amphibious Transport should come up.

Thanks BillRunacre. The problem was that the country I was trying to create an Amphibious Transport for was not at 100% mobilization. So I tried with another country (Germany) and was able to create a standard Amphibious Transport, but unfortunately the Long Range Amphibious Transport icon is grayed out! It would really nice if the game provided hover over help text to tell me why the selection is disabled.

BillRunacre -> RE: How to use Amphibious Transports? (11/27/2019 1:08:55 PM)

Great, and that is either that Germany needs to research Amphibious Warfare more in order to make Long Ranges one available, or it lacks sufficient MPPs this turn.

And, although it probably doesn't need to be said, make sure there are no enemy subs lurking about, or least screen your unit with DDs.

Ok thanks for the tips. I am restarting my game and will see if I can build LR Amphibious Transports at some point.
