Where did this come from? Had no clue but it looks good. I am looking for a video, no luck

Rosseau -> RE: Tiller game called Wolfpack (12/1/2019 1:31:22 AM)

Well, let us know if you find anything please. Maybe some posts on the SubSims site? Forgot the name exactly.

Because of games like Rule the Waves and such, I would not "bite" on this one, especially a sub vs. ship game only. But glad they continue to crank them out pretty regularly.

Ashtur -> RE: Tiller game called Wolfpack (12/1/2019 2:20:14 AM)

Game just came out this evening, so a bit early to find videos and the like.

wodin -> RE: Tiller game called Wolfpack (12/1/2019 2:38:30 AM)

For me because it's submarines making it different to the excellent Steam & Iron and RTW2 has me very interested in this surprise release.

demyansk -> RE: Tiller game called Wolfpack (12/1/2019 10:06:50 AM)

Yes Wodin, I received an email on the game and I didn't hear any chatter on the forums. I might get it but at 39.99 is a little high for an old system. Make it 19.99 and no problem.

wosung -> RE: Tiller game called Wolfpack (12/1/2019 10:14:39 AM)

Manual is online. But it seems to be a composite manual for all Tiller Naval games: There are sections & pictures about (Japanese) CVs, German WW1 BBs, Chinese boomers, aircrafts, Sonobuoys, missiles...

According to the website description there is a Allied / German 1940 to 1945 campaign. But there's nothing about it in the manual.

There's a screenie of the campaign structure:

http://www.johntillersoftware.com/NavalCampaigns/Wolfpack/Wolfpack7.png

Essentially puts you in control of a sub with a series of missions ahead of you, the result of the missions determines your progress through the campaign tree, the main objective is survival.

Extract from the campaign manual:

quote:

Campaign Data
A Campaign consists of a series of Situations. Each Situation offers each side in the Campaign a list of Choices. Each side picks one of these Choices not knowing what the other side has decided. After each side has selected their Choice, then the selections are cross referenced to arrive at an Outcome. An Outcome consists of a Scenario in a Module and 5 other Situations associated with the 5 possible victory conditions that can result from a battle: Major Defeat, Minor Defeat, Draw, Minor Victory, and Major Victory. In addition, an Expected Value is associated with each Outcome for use by the A/I (Artificial Intelligence). The Scenario is fought by the two sides and the Allied victory condition resulting from this battle is used to determine the next Situation according to the 5 Situations associated with the Outcome. This process is repeated and continues until a Terminal Situation is reached which represents the resolution of the Campaign.

All manuals apply to all games in a series, as when new updates are applied to the older games all the new functionality is made available.

Just wanted to let people know that I'll be putting an AAR up over at Grogheads. It'll take a bit, I'm kinda busy, heh.

Delaware -> RE: Tiller game called Wolfpack (12/1/2019 7:13:30 PM)

This too caught me out of nowhere and may well steal my SC WW1 money.

For more about what the game is like, don;t look at the manual but the Getting Started tutorial. Seems interesting.

I always enjoyed their Midway game.

Delaware -> RE: Tiller game called Wolfpack (12/1/2019 10:42:52 PM)

After reading the "Getting started" I'm less sure if I will enjoy it.

"But how do I shoot? With your u-boat selected press and hold the Ctrl key and then right click where
you want your torpedo to go. A “fish” will launch and begin it’s course. Remember, your target is
moving, so you don’t want to shoot where it is now, but rather where you believe it will be."
Hmm do you just "Kentucky windage" it and shoot via eyeball? Or does your crew come up with a firing solution via a %? Sure sounds like the former.

Blond_Knight -> RE: Tiller game called Wolfpack (12/2/2019 1:00:00 AM)

It plays just like the subs in their Midway game, which I enjoyed and had a blast torpedoing enemy carriers in.

And Delaware is correct, its eyeball computing only. But I recall sinking a half dozen IJN ships with a single sub in a scenario in Midway.

I had never played as subs in Midway. I’m sure it’s a fun game. I was remembering how you had to eyeball your torpedo planes release in Midway.

I have to give a shout out to Tiller Support. I had lost my Midway serial number and Rich from JTS emailed me my serial and a spare installer, not only for Midway but all the game’s I had purchased from them. This was only 20 minutes after my initial email and on a Sunday evening, wow

Ashtur -> RE: Tiller game called Wolfpack (12/2/2019 2:27:59 AM)

Wolfpack is a bit deeper than the sub rules in Midway. If you look in the manual that's on the game's webpage, you'll see a section on Enhanced Submarine Rules (page 43). There's a whole bunch of important stuff in there, including submarine batteries, inhibiting fire and periscopes and special spotting rules for subs.

Yup, it in the manual. Basically you hover over your target while holding the CTRL key and the TDC generates a firing solution and you fire away. TDC stuff is on page 48

Delaware -> RE: Tiller game called Wolfpack (12/2/2019 2:37:55 AM)

Excellent. Sold!

What’s interesting is that there is a whole section under Enhanced Sub Rules about sonobouys and Magnetic Anomoly Detection, which are modern warfare elements. Does Tiller have a game on Modern Naval warfare?

budd -> RE: Tiller game called Wolfpack (12/2/2019 2:38:04 AM)

Wonder if there is any possibility of the operational layer being improved at all.

RFalvo69 -> RE: Tiller game called Wolfpack (12/2/2019 8:09:59 AM)

Midway was already an excellent game born from a mediocre series (Naval Campaigns). The key was to introduce a realistic air warfare model over the very simple and abstract naval one used before. I hope that doing the same for submarines will result in another satisfying experience.

I am enjoying this wargame a lot, I am a big fan of the JTS Naval Campaigns series. I think it is clearly focused for players of naval wargames rules for miniatures.

A nice little AAR over here by GaryMc

Started document updated...the intent of the file is to get guys up and running quickly - with a detailed reading of the documentation to follow. We gloss over a good bit of detail, but that's not to suggest the depth isn't there in the game. Link below to the updated file:
