Definitely try before you buy. You can get the free one from Tacview website or Steam. It grants you 21 days trial. I uninstalled it after playing one scenario.

It depends. If people are into DCS, Falcon BMS etc. and plan to upgrade from CMANO to CMO incl. going for TacView (Advanced).... => definitely get the bundle on Steam!

Though bear in mind that the Steam version isn't standalone - it depends on the Steam client. That may be an issue for some people.

Absolutely. That's what I meant by "try before you buy". Tacview may not be for you but there's the free trial.

I agree. Try before you buy. Don't think Tacview is going turn CMO into a combat flight sim. It's an analysis tool for pilots in the cockpits and their teammates. Used Tacview for a few hours and have not since. Could not imagine using it for anything but a small scenario. Like to hear from players who are using Tacview and how. You could change my mind, it's still open to the product.

I'm a new user of Tacview, and I initially reckoned I wouldn't have bought it were I not also a flightsimmer.

It is useful in CMO as part of a learning curve to better understand what is happening, but I don't generally use it when I'm playing "for real".

However as CMO will always throw new ideas at us, I'm now glad I have it.

I got the Steam version in the bundle before I realised it wasn't standalone, and I have a latent paranoia that Steam might just disappear some day! Though perhaps the sky might fall on my head first.

I had the fear that floppy drives would no longer be available. That fear came true but it didn't matter because I'm not playing Great Battles of Napoleon again, and if I wanted to there's always DosBox. 360K used to be HUMONGOUS and I thought no hard drive in the world is going to hold all of my games.
