Do AA LCUs in a port hex protect TFs in the port hex?

And does it matter if the TF is docked or not?

It matters if the TF is docked or disbanded in port, and of course if it is a port attack we're talking about, which uses ground attack skills. If the TF is at sea in the port hex it cannot be effectively attacked except in a naval attack using naval attack skills, and in that case only the AA of the TF itself applies.

Yep, only the docked and the disbaned will benefit from LCU's AA protetction.

Docked/undocked status certainly matters when enemy surface ships come calling. I suppose for the initial bombing runs "docked" TF will be easier to hit because ships are stationary on anchor. They become "undocked" after the first bombing, that's another piece of evodence that status matters. Although I never tested it to have hard evidence.

I believe docked TF is also considered as outside port itself, staying on anchor in the harbor. So port AA does not take part. It does when ships are inside port, AKA disbanded

I meant to ask only about TFs that might be loading or unloading at the port - if it's disbanded, it's not a TF any more!

TF's don't take bomb hits. Ships do.

As a matter of fact, and if you pay attention, in the animation, airplanes attacking TFs in a port hex, not disbanded of course, many times have to undergo a "flak phase" without ships shown, which I ascribe to ground port AA (which is usually short and not much effective), and then the usual airplanes vs ships animation, where airplanes take on ships AA as well;

I believe Alfred said the AA during the approach phase was from other ships in the TF, not the port. A TF not docked is considered to be "at sea" which could be a number of miles from the port (the hex being 40 NM wide).
