Rain08 -> [Logged] Build 1121.3: SAMs engaging well beyond their range (12/20/2019 3:00:44 PM)

Like the title says. SAMs (maybe AAMs too?) will shoot down aircraft even if that's definitely outside of their range. For example, a ship carrying SM-2 ranged at around 90 nmi, will shoot targets well beyond that. It will attempt to hit targets at 130 nmi or 140 nmi away.

Setup:
1.) Place a unit with SAMs. I've used a Tico with SM-2 (~90 nmi) and SM-6 (~130 nmi) mix
2.) Place "stationary" non-maneuvering aircraft at range. I've used Su-35s at 140, 150, 160,..., 190 nmi away from the Tico.
3.) Once the aircraft is identified (and facing your own unit), either let your unit shoot automatically or manually.
4.) Watch your missiles try to do their best to hit their targets out of their range.

From the discussions in Discord, the apparent cause is the DLZ calculation, the AI being super optimistic and once the target "faces" your unit.

About the same i observer about ceiling of SAM missiles. Eg missiles with maximum 20000ft ceiling will hit an aircraft at 24000ft (and calulations will not show any penalty. eg. same probabilty as hitting an aircraft same distance at 2000ft.....
