Rosseau -> RTS? Yes, but it's a great TBS wargame, too (12/25/2019 4:23:41 AM)

Only posting so that some of you may share the pleasure I have gotten so far with Steel Division II from Eugen Systems on Steam.

There are so many nice historical touches in the Army General TBS part of the game, and the AI is very strong. If you are not into playing out the RTS battles that occur on the strategic map, you can auto resolve it. This game is not quite Command Ops, but what game is?

Some of you may know that I have a few wargames here and there. At $20, the value is through the roof, and Eugen, a small studio, deserves credit for their incredible attention to detail on four big battles of the Eastern Front. I am still playing the introductory Bobruisk scenario two days now, mostly in TBS mode.

This game had been sitting in my library and finally got to it. I immediately purchased the Death on the Vistula DLC for $10. While I wince at the title, the historical battle was extraordinarily difficult for the Germans, as you know. Can you do better?

BN level with weapon details down to the individual round. You get the same details even if you opt for TBS and auto resolve only. Thing that I missed because I am slow is a good manual. But they are very helpful on the Steam forums. Now how about that!

Either way, wishing you all peace and rest this Christmas.

Mike

Tbs - turn based strategy.

Oh thanks, sometimes I don't recognize all the abbreviations. Getting old

Bought this game on a holiday sale but have not played yet...

It seems that if you also buy the pre-release you get another division to play with.

Well, I think you are a pretty conservative, discerning wargamer 76mm. All compliments there.

But at the very least, I think you will enjoy the artwork, graphics, historical notes, etc. And the gameplay should stay interesting, as each campaign and historical battle offers a new challenge.

The rest of you guys, have a good one!

I fired it up quickly and had a bit of a hard time figuring out how to maneuver/fire units, but will obviously give it a more sustained effort. The graphics are beautiful.

The big problem I had on the strategic map was I was not right-clicking on my units to add them to the "battle box." I was left clicking.

Also, be sure to leave all units with at least 1 AP in case they are attacked. From either side, the scenarios seem tough, and the AI is aggressive; sometimes overly so and can sometimes be cut off and surrounded.

Were you able to find a decent manual? It is a real shame that Eugen simply doesn't provide one...

Seemed abit of a click fest to me

I bought it, hopefully not too much clicking

For $20, I don't think you'll be disappointed, Demyansk. No click fest on the strategic portion, and you never need to go tactical. That can definitely be a AI spamming clicker. But worth a try.

Anyway, from the main map, you get all the details when you auto resolve a battle. It also pays if you know a little Russian. [;)]

Manual is MIA, but Steam forum users will answer your questions.

Have a good New Year to all.

I bought Steel Division Normandy. The problem I have with the game is in order to play well you must be zoomed way out (Almost every let's play video is recorded at max zoom level for the entire match, no one zooms in during play), so all the pretty graphics are a total waste. Things also move far too fast in game with most battles lasting less than 30 min. So the RTS side of the game saturates play and ruins any kind of wargame appeal for me, so I skipped on getting version II.

That's standard for RTS games like that, it's exactly the same with Supreme Commander FAF.

Profender -> RE: RTS? Yes, but it's a great TBS wargame, too (1/4/2020 9:27:04 AM)

Seems to fast phased like i need to click fast all the time

I returned the game, I didn't see a slow down option

But there is. 3 different game speed settings. Plus a small mod in Steam Workshop for adjusting the length of battles.
