HermanGraf -> Lack of Forum Activity (12/30/2019 7:04:41 PM)

Hello,

Long time lurker and reader, followed lots of WiTE AARs and posts, picked up WiTW 2 years ago but never really gotten into it until now.

Question, why the lack of AAR? People still enjoy the older WiTE system? The air war is modeled so well in WiTW not sure why people still explore WiTE so much. More WiTW AAR please!!!!

Searry -> RE: Lack of Forum Activity (12/30/2019 7:56:03 PM)

For some reason, not as many people are interested in this title.

HermanGraf -> RE: Lack of Forum Activity (12/30/2019 9:35:47 PM)

I too love the Eastern Front and find it epic and fascinating. But would be nice to have more love on WiTW. I really learn from AARs

Zovs -> RE: Lack of Forum Activity (12/30/2019 9:42:39 PM)

I just started getting into WITW over last two months even though I have owned it for quite a while. Been playing solo learning Amph and Air. Its quite fun actually.

Tejszd -> RE: Lack of Forum Activity (12/31/2019 12:03:23 AM)

Own WitW but find the WitE just interests me more with its options (ex. strategic), scale and variety (countries, terrain and who is stronger certain years)....

I think this is where WiTW differs from WiTE1, it is actually fun vs the AI, so I suspect a lot of players use it that way -- of course PBEM is different but especially for the allies an AI game can be enjoyable and fairly tense in terms of win/draw/lose at the end

zakblood -> RE: Lack of Forum Activity (12/31/2019 8:34:25 AM)

WITW is much easier imo to learn than WITE, but it also depends on which part of the war you prefer, for me i'm a WITW player, single only mind you

Sardaukar -> RE: Lack of Forum Activity (12/31/2019 8:49:23 AM)

I think complex depiction of air war in WitW scares some away.

zakblood -> RE: Lack of Forum Activity (12/31/2019 8:55:31 AM)

no idea why, as with it, it makes the game easier if you let the AI do it, or the same if you do it manually, so it's a choice and imo a good to great one, as it opens up the game to non grogheads or geeks etc so the less better and able player like me [:D]

Zovs -> RE: Lack of Forum Activity (12/31/2019 11:36:02 AM)

My take is the following.

I was a play tester for WitE and at the end of doing so (at release) I was burnt out and took a break from it. Then I played pretty much only SPWW2/MBT for the following years. I started play testing WitE2 and needed to learn how different the air war was so I finally installed my WitW copy and at first it was daunting but the 4 videos really helped a understand the air war a lot. The two PDF's also helped and really the air war is not the complicated.

I have yet to play the WitW '44 scenarios yet, but having fun with the up the boot scenario for '43-45. Also toying with the Tunis one that is pretty neat too.

Like zakblood said, WitW is great against the AI and using the AI assist tools helps learn it. The unit density is very small compared to eastern front action.

Commanderski -> RE: Lack of Forum Activity (12/31/2019 11:42:47 AM)

I think more people are playing than you realize. Most of the bugs have been eliminated and that's usually the reason most people post. A look at the number of hits for the beta updates indicates that quite a few people still play or at least keep updating their game.

zakblood -> RE: Lack of Forum Activity (12/31/2019 12:05:27 PM)

i've only ever played against the AI and tbh it's too good for me unless i give myself more help on most of the battles, my goal for 2020 is to learn the air side of it and get back into WITE2 testing, as atm most of the time this year has been on WITW patch testing

HermanGraf -> RE: Lack of Forum Activity (12/31/2019 5:24:04 PM)

Thank you for all the replies. I am about 45 turns deep into the Battleground Italy 43-45 campaign as Germans and I'm having a blast. Yes nothing can beat WitE scale, but all the systems in WitW seem pretty well polished. Well, i haven't played WitE for some years, heard it caught up. Anyway I'm just VERY excited for the epic WitE 2 scale!

I also love reading AARs, and its sad there are not many for the Western Theatre, seems like there is a lot of room for ahistorical assaults, attacks, and outcomes.

On a side note: I have pulled back in Italy as the Germans and formed a pretty damn good defensive line with my units. The AI is not being aggressive and just constantly shifts its units around but never attacks. In the air, they lost about 3500 planes so they aren't very active in there either. Does the AI pull Amph Assaults' other than the original planned ones in the beginning of the game? Be nice to know before i go another 45 turns with a stalemate at my Berfno (sp?) line.

Searry -> RE: Lack of Forum Activity (1/1/2020 11:03:22 AM)

I really wish the GG team would look at PBEM balance with EF control on.

streetsahead1985 -> RE: Lack of Forum Activity (1/2/2020 3:56:29 PM)

Yeah, I'm a little disappointed in the lack of activity here as well since I just picked the game up a couple of weeks ago and am a man obsessed, much to my wife's frustration. Playing through the Torch DLC as I read Rick Atkinson's An Army At Dawn and it's been a wonderful experience.

cfulbright -> RE: Lack of Forum Activity (1/2/2020 5:11:09 PM)

Hi Streetsahead,

I don't think the "lack of activity" is quite accurate. If you check the front page of this forum, you will see 22 threads started or most recently responded to since Nov. 1. Whenever someone posts question, one or more people respond, typically the same day or next morning. Don't take this as criticism of you; I'm probably being overly sensitive.

I'm happy to hear you're enjoyiung the game. I've been playing it almost continuously since 2013 when I started as a playtester. I'm always happy to answer questions and give advice.

When you're ready, I encourage you to try the 1943-45 Grand Campaign (AAHQ), which means it has extra air headquarters that allow you to task more Air Directives.

Cary

Hello cfulbright

Rather than make numerous questions on the forums, figure to keep my questions here to you! :).

Does the Allied AI surprise a human German player and conduct amphibious landings other than the scheduled Husky and Dday?

Do construction units attached to cities speed up the building and repairing process occurring in said city? (i.e Palmero is captured by allies, damage to port:99. Does a construction unit repair that and help with building/expanding an airfield?)

During the check phases of battles, are units stats and damage really taken into consideration? I meticulously planned a very strong counter attack in Italy using my Tigers and Panthers vs an allied weaker position but still filled with lots of Sherman IIIs and M4A1s. Lost, and with that many tigers and panthers... No air superiority and a few arty units passed their checks and came into battle on the allied side.

I'm going to have to plead ignorance on this one. I've only ever played the Allies.

Construction units DO speed up repairs and building airbases. They prioritize repairs over the airbase. You can assign multiple construction units to a city, which further speeds things up, though there is some maximum amount of speed-up that I don't know how to calculate.

A best practice for construction units is at the end of every ground phase before you end your turn, run the Commander's report ("c"), filter to only Construction units and only Support rather than on-map, then sort by HHQ. You can then click on each, see progress, start another round of airbase building, unattach and then reattach to another city, and also see any that the AI has put onto the map (it will show a number under the "DtHq" column), and possibly reassign those or return them to your HQ.

It is supposed to. Did you look at the after-action report by clicking F11? One of the tabs in Show Detail shows Ground Combat.

HermanGraf -> RE: Lack of Forum Activity (1/2/2020 6:56:29 PM)

I should rename my original title, as proof with the activity on my post. Maybe it should be called, make more WitW AARs!!! Which is what my original title was referencing.

Thank you cfubright! I did take a look at the AA report. Didn't quite understand it, seemed like my tigers were barely committed to battle i believe, very little damage/activity. Maybe i need to sack the commander for low initiative?

keep an eye on the range at which the attack stopped.

if it was much over 700m your tanks won't have had chance to fire but sometimes an attack stalls at distance.

most likely reasons are you were already fatigued/disrupted before attacking or that allied artillery disrupted you and you halted.

remember that allied naval guns can make life a real misery in this regard, I've seen apparently clear win attacks just stall due its impact

rysgame -> RE: Lack of Forum Activity (1/19/2020 6:26:07 PM)

I think it might be that WiTE is just more dynamic maybe? Playing as axis on WITW is alot of form stable defensive line and hold out as long as possible then retreat, do it again. France offers more of a dynamic playstyle, but personally in always hampered by having enough guys to defend, or do an attack, and not both. Especially since the luftwaffe is largely related to defending axis industry they aren't the decisive force they were in the east. Just IMO of course

Gilmer -> RE: Lack of Forum Activity (4/4/2020 3:03:16 AM)

I'm becoming more active on this forum. I was doing a let's play on youtube, but got waxed. Embarrassingly. But that means the AI is not a pushover. I'm more experienced at the Ageod games which I have always had a love/hate relationship, more love though.

Prescott -> RE: Lack of Forum Activity (4/6/2020 2:56:00 AM)

If one purchases the current War in the West version, and learns to play it, will it help one be "ahead of the curve" when the new War in the East version is released later this year, or next year? Thank you for your consideration and time concerning this matter.

On the activity topic, perhaps the War in the East version is more popular because it is easier, or that the Axis are preparing for their potential zenith, or both reasons. Or for none of these.

loki100 -> RE: Lack of Forum Activity (4/6/2020 7:34:52 AM)

yes - in the sense that WiTE2 is based on substantive developments of the logistics and air war model in WiTW and is a near complete break to WiTE1.

In effect if you get used to the air game in WiTW it'll give you a good handle on WiTE2 but the automation approach is very different there. Logistics much the same, its a recognisable iteration but its also very different.

To put this in context, the draft WiTE2 manual has 2-3 pages of 'key differences to WiTW' as part of trying to orientate players who have played WiTW.

Sardaukar -> RE: Lack of Forum Activity (4/6/2020 9:43:18 AM)

WitE 2 is and will be quite different from WitE 1 indeed. And in my opinion, quite a lot better.
