Spliffmaker -> level bombers from PM problem (7/12/2003 6:00:41 AM)

PBEM game. Scenario 17.

Got some B26s and B25s at Port Moresby, supply is well over double needed, airfield size is 4, total planes at base is within capacity and within aviation support levels, base overall is within support level needed.

Bombers are set to primary naval attack at 6,000ft with a secondary airfield attack mission with Lae targeted. Moral is around 50 - 80 between groups, experience is around 60 for all groups and fatigue is pretty low all round.

There ARE IJN ships being spotted by catalina patrol that are within the range of these bombers, IJN ships are docking at....um.....that German sounding base east of Lae.

The problem is the bombers keep hitting Lae and wont go after the ships. At no time have I seen any enemy CAP and the ships within range are generally transport vessels. Removing the secondary mission causes them to rest.

What gives?

Do you have fighters available to escort your bombers? Your enemy may be flying cover over the transports/shipping from another base?

Try setting them to naval attack only at 100ft (Skip Bombing time!) with some P39/P400 (Also on naval attack at 100ft) along for the ride.

Do you have any Hudsons available to you? Those guys will bomb anything, anywere, any time :D.

What state is the hq unit in at pm? If is highly disrupted you might try swaping it with a unit from Aus, same with the base force and engineers. Ship more units in if you have them available. If the PM is getting bombed regularly this may effect your bomber as well, lowers moral and damages planes.
