btd64 -> Naval Intercept Digression: Intercept? (1/3/2020 12:25:06 AM)

Hi all. I'm new to this game and I have to say, it's a lot of fun up until now. As you can see from the screen shot below, I'm stuck on a Naval Intercept Digression. The other times I have come across Digressions I had some kind of screen to get thru it with. This time I have what you see. So I need some help with this. Thanks....GP

Most likely it’s hidden somewhere. Try ctrl + tab to change windows or minimize large ones.

If you don’t mind I give few tips about ships.

When in ports, keep them all together for maximum AA factors. Germany can place ships east out of CW range in start and after surprise impulse sail them to Kiel. Blue ports are major ports, they can hold unlimited amount of ships.

When going for naval combat, try stack ships to one high box if possible (and 0 box if needed for CP or for example TRS that don’t reach high boxes). If Germany would now send fast ships to high box and find CW ships and CW fails finding, they would pick one box with ships they want to sink to minimize own losses or avoid planes.

And if you have fighter that reaches box 2, naval bomber that reaches box 3 and ships that reaches box 4, put them all to box 2. I have lost enough units that have been without fighter cover when enemy naval bomber finds (rolling well and I roll bad). Don’t do the same mistake [;)] (exception: subs hunting CPs usually are each as high box as possible to maximize odds to find enemy.)

EDIT: one more. For CW great ports are Plymouth and Liverpool. I don’t use ports in eastern UK because ships are trapped if Germany brings ships to North Sea. From Plymouth you reach North Sea equally easy and ships are free to sail elsewhere too.

Thanks for this. Very helpful. So you think the box is there just not showing up. If I closed it by mistake, how would I bring it back up?....GP

If you closed it I suggest to load from autosave ”naval movement”. Choose Global war and Axis autosave and then naval movement. Do naval moves again.

I often reload from autosave if I forget to move some unit etc

Thanks, I'll give it a try....GP

That worked. Thanks again....GP

No problemos.

Yes, excellent points. Sea battles are ALL about the search rolls. I small force of 4 ships (study the Naval combat chart) can hurt a much larger force and especially if the larger force is spread out over the search boxes. Each search box represents a separate force in the sea area.

btd64 -> RE: Naval Intercept Digression: Intercept? (1/3/2020 2:30:17 PM)

Speaking of naval combat, If I understand this right the higher the box number the better your search number will be at locating enemy ships, Correct?....GP

Yes, better odds to find and more you get surprise points.

You have ships in box 4, enemy in box 2. You find with rolls 1-4, enemy with 1-2. Enemy convoy increases your odds to find by 1. Your naval bomber (blue circle) or carrier plane puts you one box higher (only the box where plane is, even to ”box 5”).

Let’s say both roll 2 and find, you have 2 surprise points as you were 2 boxes higher.

btd64 -> RE: Naval Intercept Digression: Intercept? (1/3/2020 3:13:26 PM)

Ahhh, I get it. Thanks again....GP

Mayhemizer_slith -> RE: Naval Intercept Digression: Intercept? (1/3/2020 3:18:03 PM)

Plus if you roll better (lower) than your enemy you get surprise points to use.

btd64 -> RE: Naval Intercept Digression: Intercept? (1/3/2020 3:40:21 PM)

That part I have seen. But thanks anyway....GP

Courtenay -> RE: Naval Intercept Digression: Intercept? (1/3/2020 3:57:27 PM)

Great Britain has one more major port: Scapa Flow. There are three sea areas next to the Britain: Faroes Gap, Bay of Biscay, and North Sea. Each of the three major ports touches two of them. You have to decide which of the three is less important to you; base your ships in the port that doesn't touch that one. Of course, ships have different jobs; Transports and their escorts will almost always be in Plymouth or Liverpool, while the Home Fleet will frequently be in Scapa.

btd64 -> RE: Naval Intercept Digression: Intercept? (1/3/2020 4:11:56 PM)

OK. thanks....GP

Orm -> RE: Naval Intercept Digression: Intercept? (1/3/2020 4:43:51 PM)

I often sea the Home Fleet in London.

Courtenay -> RE: Naval Intercept Digression: Intercept? (1/3/2020 8:17:58 PM)

Why? What can the fleet do in London that it can't do in either Plymouth or Scapa?

GSP,

If you are using windows 10, and you get the problem of a little pop up window hiding behind the detail map suggest this:

Right click on the windows task bar;

Left click "cascade windows";

The little window that was hidden is most likely second bottom on the cascade (possibly third).

I more often have this problem with the "always on top" production planning, and combat screens- moving them a couple of cm to the right is a good habit.
