As I try to understand naval movements I am stuck on movement of SCS from a sea area to a port. Specifically I am moving SCS fin Guadalcanal scenario. I have moved carriers from Bismarck Sea Area to the Solomons Sea Area and stopped in a port. This leaves me with remaining range and movement. But on the following impulse am I not allowed to move the Carrier(s) again?

That's correct - if you move from a sea box to a port, the ships so moving become disorganised and are unable to move again until they are reorganised. This happens either at the end of the turn, during the final reorganisation step, or during the turn (at the end of your impulses) if you use air transports, empty transports at sea, or HQs to reorganise the units.

Ok. Thanx. I am having some confusion on understanding naval movement. I could have gone further on my initial move, but just to stay and "save" movement points. I guess that didn't' work out.

No. Movement points, whether at land, sea, or air, do not accumulate. I can't think of any wargame where that statement isn't true. (Although I am sure someone can come up with one.)

About returning to base, the higher box you are, the closer port you have to go. If you are in box 3, then 3 points are reduced from range and one point is needed to move to port.

Let’s say 6 range CA is in box 4 of West Mediterranean Sea. It has left range 2 when going to port. UK is too far away, but it can use 1 point to move to East Med and last point to move Egyptian port adjacent to East Med. I used to forget this.

I also have gone back and read Section 11 RAC.

In addition I was getting stuck on Stay At Sea/Return to Base. I think I got that straight now. I kept having to return units to base because I wasn’t moving down a section in order to keep them on patrols.

So much to learn.

Be careful with your convoys. You should have most of them on sentry, because you want to keep them at sea. Be warned that if convoys take losses, MWiF will frequently take them off sentry. This is not the behavior anyone wants, but it is what we have. So if you have a sea battle in an area, it always pays to check your convoys to make sure they are still on sentry. (You will have another chance to put them on sentry in the "Stay at Sea" step, but better to check early.)

In the stay at sea step, stepping through all units that can move is very helpful. (Using the arrow buttons in the main menu.)
