Ulrik -> How to get mega campaigns (7/12/2003 9:26:03 PM)

Hi everyone,
When the illustrious mega campaigns came along I was unfortunately an unusually broke student at the time, so I couldn’t afford them. Is it possible to get any campaigns at all? I would love to have The north Africa campaign.

Any ideas, anyone tired of their copy and wouldn’t mind selling it?

Pleas

Ulrik,

Just be patient a little while longer. Matrix is going to be re-releasing all of the old MC's in the near future, on CD and/or download at last word, and the new one is progressing along nicely at this point.

Sorry I have no immediate solution, but it's all coming soon.

:D

Re-release eh!, Horaaa!! That is really great news!! thanks man!

Ulrik,

This store still has 2 of the 3 mega campaigns released by Matrix. Unfortunately it is not the North Africa one but the other two can still be bought. www.duchet.com

Cheers

And considering that Lost Victories might be the biggest and Watchtower is the more rarer Pacific, grabbing those is a cool prospect in and of itself.

I know this was posted elsewhere, but a single disk with all the games on it would be great!!:D

I MIGHT be wrong, but I think the sum total of the required data exceeds the storage capacity of the media in place at this time.

That's assuming some otherwise unknown to me compression storage capacity is accessible.
I only know this though, the core game uses several hundred megs of space all by itself. That doesn't leave a lot of space for multiple MC programs.

That, and I think it would not be in Matrix's best interest to combine them. I think what is likely going to be the case, is a downloadable file option purchase.
There might be a limited supply made available for those without luxury of high speed downloadable capacity.
But then again, can any of you honestly say you know of know one else in your immediate location that does not have the capacity to download at good speed that could not offer you access to a burned cd?

tmac -> Ignorant American (7/16/2003 7:43:25 PM)

The site listed above seems to have Watchtower still available. Being the above titled American (no offense meant to my Canadian brethern or others living in this hemisphere), I am confused at how much it costs, ie, whats 25-30 pounds work out in US greenbacks? Also, won't a credit card company such as Visa do the exchange for you (or me) and bill appropriately? Last, but not least, I'd rather pay Matrix direct so they make more $, no offence to the distributor. My question is: should I buy now because it may take Matrix so long to re-release that if I wait this site will sell out, and I'll be left stuck here where I am, without Watchtower? Tough nut to crack here, guess I'll wait for advice and continue to play Lost Victories, which has me jonesing for the other two MC's. These are truly fun.

This would probably be a first (going opposite direction from the norm), but maybe the solution is to PM U2 with a request that he make a local purchase (local ie he is in Europe and we are not) and arrange to private mail to you in the US.

Saves a bit on the confusion mailing and all that stuff.

All of this assumes you and him are able to arrive at a mutually satisfying deal to handle the transaction (which is none of my business :)).

Better act soon though, the US dollar looks like it is on the move again. And who knows what that will mean out there.

tmac -> Thanks (7/16/2003 8:46:47 PM)

Les- thanks for your prompt reply. I didn't think of that method, although I have noticed some of your posts regarding others that helped you here in the US ( I think one you mentioned your friend Margaret?). FYI, I have high speed connection and cd/dvd burner now, anything you need let me know I'd be glad to hook you up, and I'm close to Canadian border (not that that makes any difference other than a close proximity to getting real beer made for real men). What is your opinion about waiting? I'd love to buy it direct from Matrix, but don't want to be left out in the cold for an extended period. I'm just playing Lost Victories for the first time, just 3 battles in, and it's like crack (I assume, lol... maybe gin in my case). One taste and I want and need more. I don't know how long I can keep my wife in the dark about my new obsession, and she kids me still about my first foray into computer gaming (Panzer General 2). I played that until my fingers hurt, and then I discovered SP1-3, and its descendants. Here I am, six years later, a grown man, playing like a kid. I love it! The next best thing is this forum, what a great group of folks. I look forward to interacting with all of you here, and if I'm lucky maybe at one of the get-togethers like Ft Knox. Well, too much said, I've been running some long posts, let me know if there's anything you'd like me to burn for you. Thanks again for the suggestion.
Tim

Yes her name is Margaret, and I was most happy to hear she was finally taken off the market (there is one very lucky guy in Texas these days).

As for connection I too enjoy broadband luxury as well as a burner. Looking to expand to dvd burner in near future, got a bajillion vhs documentaries I want on a more compact more reliable more durable cd media method. I have been told even dvds are not forever (strikes me as odd).
But in 50 years time I am sure I won't be all that concerned (I am assuming I won't be concerned about anything by that time hehe).

Your offer is noted though, appreciation to it. I guess you have not seen me comment on how I have succeeded in sending my Ultra Steel Panthers assortment on cd to some far flung locations on the planet (where broadband is just something you have heard about hehe).

Actually I have just only recently added the latest H2H mod and the latest SPMBT and SPWW2 downloads to my version. Just waiting to add the lastest core files version from SPWaW.

Actually if you are unafraid to become even further bogged down in good wargaming fun, you might want to check out Battlefront's game Strategic Command. It shares the simple design feel that made Panzer General so successful, and it has a low price tag. It is a game set in grand strategy level.

But with regards to who gets your purchase dollar, remember if you get it from Duchet via a European, it still was sold by Matrix Games initially eh. And every time someone supports one of Matrix Game's known secondary sources, you are actually helping those that help promote sales of Matrix Games products.

So your not misplacing your purchase loyalty hehe.

Lost Victories is it's own beast. If you enjoy it, you can take for granted that you want Watchtower. Down and dirty with the marines fighting on the canal. Excellent gaming. Don't forsake Desert Fox though, keep searching. It's a tank players MC all the way.

And hmm keep an eye out for MC number 4 which I am involved with hehe. You don't want to be too far down the line waiting to get this one either.

As I see it, each MC has learned from the last, they just keep getting more and more refined.
