Encircled -> The Sync bug (1/21/2020 2:49:33 PM)

Just checking here, what is the way to get the correct combat report when this happens?

spence -> RE: The Sync bug (1/21/2020 3:07:17 PM)

I've been playing for a long time and I used to deal with the 'Synch Bug' quite often. In my past few games I have not encountered the 'Synch Bug' at all. But one way to deal with it is to have your Japanese Opponent send his copy of the Combat Summary along with the turn (I'm pretty sure that the Japanese Player ALWAYS sees the correct version).

Thats what I thought!

Just wanted to double check

Cheers

I know it been discussed before, but since we're here.

What's the best way to prevent it?[:)]

Same load versions

When you run the replay/animation the wrong combat report will be written out (that's part of the sync bug), however when you subsequently open the turn to work on it, when the turn is opened it saves out the correct combat report and over-writes the bad one.

I have verified this by testing. The next version of Intel Monkey will have functionality to help Intel Monkey get the corrected version (provided the player opens the turn before running Intel Monkey).

Are you saying that all you have to do to correct is to open/shut/open the turn to get the good combat report?

Just open it, it writes out the internally saved combat report right then.

As part of their effort to solve the sync bug, the developers decided to store a copy of the 'official' combat report, the one the Japan player sees, inside the save file. It gets written out when you open the save.

A little more detail for you... If you use the -archive switch then all the reports get stored in the /archive sub-folder with the game data added to the file name. That copy of the combat report does not get corrected when you open the turn. Intel Monkey uses those files in the /archive sub-folder, so the new version of Intel Monkey will instruct the player to first open the turn, then tell Intel Monkey to go. At at point Intel Monkey will compare the two files and if they are different, copy the good one over the bad one in the /archive sub-folder.

Intel Monkey is getting smarter. Will it become an ape soon?

IdahoNYer -> RE: The Sync bug (1/21/2020 6:13:48 PM)

While we all hate the synch bug, I have found one redeeming value in it.

Every once in a while when it happens, and you see a combat that didn't really happen - which can be a great source of intel!

Such as a sub you didn't know was lurking around or an airstrike coming from a base you weren't aware had any planes.

spence -> RE: The Sync bug (1/21/2020 6:38:21 PM)

The Japanese Player always sees the correct replay so if he sends the Combat Summary for the turn (for the turn as he saw it)) it will be correct. When the Allied Player runs the turn he can compare the Replay to the Japanese Replay as he received it. Any discrepancies (usually more than one) should be quickly noted. If there are some discrepancies the Japanese version as sent by the Japanese Player is correct.

821Bobo -> RE: The Sync bug (1/21/2020 6:56:13 PM)

Japan player should not use Esc to skip animations. If I recall there was effort to fix this(plus Z added to skip animation) but I am pretty sure it is still causing issues.

LargeSlowTarget -> RE: The Sync bug (1/21/2020 7:42:48 PM)

As a Japanese player in 1944 I have no choice but to use the Esc and Z keys - I dont't have the time to spend two hours per replay watching the Allies bombing and bombing and bombing and bombing some more... (even with delays set to the minimum possible to still get glimpses of the messages flashing by).

821Bobo -> RE: The Sync bug (1/21/2020 7:52:44 PM)

Z key should not cause it(only Esc), also you can speed it up with mouse.

Nothing to do with it.

Barb -> RE: The Sync bug (1/22/2020 12:22:01 PM)

Make sure you both have the same game version (check upper right corner of the game main screen). Then upgrade both game versions up to the same patch (including beta).

Put a roach trap under your sync and another behind the toylet.

Do Gorns eat humans sauteed or barbecued?

No, he wants to eat roaches. Unless, of course, he wants to smoke them. [;)]

Whether to sync or nsync, that is the question.

geofflambert -> RE: The Sync bug (1/24/2020 8:19:10 PM)

Don't they put NSyncerators under their syncs to chew up food scraps?
