JFS737 -> Cargo: List of units that can do it? (1/28/2020 6:29:35 PM)

Hi guys,
I'm an old user but just read the manual for CMO and have a few questions. The cargo functions are intriguing to me, but when I try to put cargo on a unit (commercial RO-RO or many others) it just goes red and says "unit not able cargo..." or something alike. So, the question is... is there a list of units that can accept cargo? Further, each unit has 3 "values" that define it's cargo capacity. They are Tons/Area/Personnel... I'd like the list to include this information as well. It would also be great to get a list of the cargo and details as well! I've not been able to find this info easily, any help?

Regards,
John

Hey JFS737,

Here is the best I can do for you. Hope you like scrolling!

On the ability for cargo to be transported by cargo ships; this is something we're aware of and want to get done. It has kind of fallen by the wayside because we have a lot cooking behind the scenes lately, however I've asked if we can prioritise it just to get it done and have that capability. Hopefully we'll be able to sort this out in the near future [:)]

Wow, [&o]
that's perfect ! Thank you very much! It has all the cargo numbers as well, good deal. I'll attach a list of actual CARGO that can be loaded onto these units and that should be all one would need... unless I'm missing something.

With this list, I'll be able to find ships to carry cargo more easily. I just figured commercial cargo ships would have that ability, then it took me a while to find one that could carry cargo (AOE Sacramento). Thanks for all your help
EDIT: Oops, not AOE... LHA America.

John

Interesting and perhaps unintended feature...

Ships that are not designed to carry cargo can carry small amounts of cargo in the form of troopers. I created a helicopter and a RHIB with passengers, then docked them with the Forbin, and then had them take off without reloading passengers...the cargo units (in this case, about 26 soldiers in 7 sections) remain on the Forbin.

I saved the test scenario and re-opened it...the cargo units are still there and when I created an .ini file, there are lines of code for the seven infantry sections...I suspect one could edit the .ini file directly and create cargo on ships, etc., but I have not tried this yet.

Interesting!

So cargo operations are not supported on the CWDB?

Wow, cool find. It appears any ship capable of landing an aircraft that can carry cargo... can take that cargo on board. The ships then can only offload it via VERTREP (Heli's, MV22's) or via boat. Most of these ships only have 7m or 11m RHIB which are roughly capable of taking ONLY personnel. Still, they can take any cargo with less than 8 (6 for the 7m) and 0 tons 0 sqm will fit, so TOW missiles, stingers, etc. Interesting and roughly appropriate as most ships are setup to house "extra" personnel for short times.
Problem: I loaded over 350 troops and light gear (TOW missiles, Stingers) AND 8x 2 TON NASSAM's vehicles. I'm sure I could have gone unlimited on them... onto an LCS (Indy). This is likely a bug.

One interesting tactic could be to load a non cargo ship up with tons of cargo and drive it to a port where equipment is needed. At the port, the equipment would then be usable.

I hope they fix it but it really is not a huge issue. If they address it, I hope they leave a small ability to host 12-64 personell ship depending, as this is "realistic" for ships with HELO pads and RHIB's to some degree. In short I like it but it needs to be limited to XX personnel and 0 tons to preclude loading 30 2 ton trucks.

John

I just found out that once all the units go ashore ( 122mm artillery, NASSAM's sam units, TOW missile troops... etc) the ground units can be MOTHERSHIPS and host CARGO. They are changed to "Arty" , "Armor" and "Landed detachment" from their original CARGO names, but this is normal I think in order to support the new ground engine.
The real issue is that they can host CARGO in an nearly UNLIMITED way, with 1000 / 1000 / 1000 for tons, area and personnel. This is probably not right, but might be useful as a scenario editor to get many units transported stealthily. Just making note here of some more odd behavior.

BOOGA... not sure about the ColdWar Database... haven't tried but I'd guess yes?

+1

I think this would be a good solution. It would open up a lot of options for scenarios like delivering commandos for covert ops, getting refugees to safety, etc.

And, of course, more ships actually capable of carrying cargo (LCS, etc.) even if that is not their primary mission should be revised so they can do it.
