BigDuke66 -> Ju 88C-2 (1/30/2020 2:09:19 AM)

Hi
the Ju 88C-2 in BoB should likely be adjusted to its role as night fighter. What I could find so far is that the C-2 version was used as destroyer but also as night fighter, in the role of the night fighter it had 2x additional MG FF/M in the floor tray but with that no MG in C-Stand(BR).
As far as I can see the C-2 in BoB works only as night fighter in the NJG2, so unless there are very good reasons the armament should be adjusted to its role as night fighter.

PS By know I have doubts that the Spanner was used on it. While it was used on the Do 17 and Do 215, and the passive version Spanner II on some Bf 110, I found no evidence that the Ju 88 C-2 used it.

I agree with your presumption that the C-2 was not equipped with Spanner, but can find no evidence of the additional armament you request. Can you point to some documentation or book that supports this?

Sources are rare and scatter with just minimal info:

Mentioning the additional 2x 20mm MG/FF
Wikipedia:

Books:

A real problem is the bomb load as I can't imagine removing the bomb-sight for additional canons but leaving the bombs in. At night I doubt dive bombing was used but even if, the internal bomb load was afaik not designated for being released while dive bombing. At the end the timing is also a problem, these were relatively newly converted out of A-1 bomber version to act as destroyers, the need for night fighters came after that and so they might have got more offensive armament but question is when?
And the factor place must also be considered. It can be possible that the version with more guns was used over the Reich, while the bomb equipped version was used over England. At least I see no sense in flyign with a bombload when defending the Reich's airspace.

For now I would stay with removing the Spanner until some solid info can be found, sorry for the trouble.

I believe they used the rear bomb bay with some 50kg bombs if on a harassment mission to drop them over enemy airfields, otherwise they had a fuel container in this bay.
