charlee22009 -> New pc build. Performance? (2/2/2020 8:15:32 PM)

Hi, building a new pc specifically to play CMO on a 4K 65 inch tv. My 4 year old laptop doesn’t cut it anymore, and is extremely slow.

How will these specs perform on large scenarios *with tacview running* (again in 4K resolution?)

I want to be able to run command, even large scenarios, very smoothly *with* tacview.

GTX 1660 Ti MSI Ventus 6G OC
Ryzen 7 3700X
32GB Ram @ 3600 MHz
Samsung 970 EVO Plus (250 Gb)

Thank you for any feedback.

I run at 4.2 GHz on an Intel i7-9750 with a 1660 ti. 64Gb RAM and an Nvi SSD of 1 TB. Its a laptop and on huge scenarios there is a little thermal throttling, but not too bad. It runs the new Op Brass Drum for CMO (almost 900 AU) at 35-40 to 1 at fastest compression. It uses all cores around 15% CPU utilization. I have always used that scenario as a benchmark. That is without TacView/3D window and no autosave.

With 3D window, it runs over 70% cpu utilization across all cores and 80% GPU utilization. The laptop gets up to 85 deg. on the CPU when its at its max, but never goes below 75 deg. while the 3D window is open.

Just a benchmark you can use. If you don't to the 3D window, your rig should do very well. If you use the 3D window, it will put some pressure on that 1660.

Anyone have experience with the Radeon Rx 5700 XT and command? It looks like a good value, although I have some concerns about compatibility/drivers etc.

I'm just building 3900X with RX 5700XT just for CMO. But far most important for CMO is the CPU, not the GPU. I choose the RX 5700XT not only for CMO, but also for games like flight simulator etc that are far more GPU hungrig. So if you really only play CMO that youd consider choose the 3900X as CPU and a cheaper GPU
