miller7219 -> [Logged] Separate Message Log Problem (2/15/2020 12:41:18 AM)

v1.01 Build 1121.8 and 9

1. Select Message log in Separate Window from View pull down menu
2. Click "Switch to Raw Text View" on the Message Log window
3. Click "X" to exit the Window Log
4. Repeat #1 above. Window will NOT appear
5. Select Game Options from the Game pull down menu
6. Click "Reset Positions of Secondary Windows" button
7. Repeat #1 and the Message Log appears just fine

Variation:

1. #1 above
2. #3 above
4. Message Log window appears just fine

It seems that if the Message Log window does not like it when you "Switch to Raw Text View".

Can anyone else confirm this behavior with the Message Log window?

DWReese -> RE: Separate Message Log Problem (2/15/2020 1:41:38 AM)

Raw Text is/was the problem for me.

I deleted the ini, and re-started and it works. I don't change a thing now.

It isn't the 'raw text' mode itself. When you minimize or 'x' the detached log, it seems to be getting recorded off the visible screen sometimes.
I shrunk the main screen and got the log to show up but it only had the caption line. I expanded it and then expanded the map and it stayed on the screen.
"Reset Positions of Secondary Windows" will clear any funny settings.

The funny behavior of the detached log is still under review - some of this behavior is new and didn't show up in testing.

Didn't work for me. Deleted it and still get the same behavior. Glad it's confirmed. I'm sure will be fixed in a future update. Thank you.

I discovered something new while I was playing with deleting the .ini file. I have 2 monitors and prefer to have the Separate Message Log window on the second monitor in Raw text mode. When you select the Separate Message Log option it always opens on the main screen. If you change to Raw Text, exit, and the re-select the Separate Message Log option it all works fine. However, it all goes bad and as I describe at the top of the thread, if I move the Separate Message Log window to my second monitor.

Hi,

Is this still happening with the new update? (Build 1134.3)

Thanks.

AndrewJ -> RE: Separate Message Log Problem (3/13/2020 8:48:13 PM)

There is still an ongoing problem with the separate window in B1134.3. (Windows 10 Home)

Switch the message log to a separate window. (CTRL-Shift-M)
Move the message log to a second screen.
Load a saved scenario.

The separate message log window closes on the second screen, and the log appears midway up the main window, without the switch to raw text button.

Use the expand/collapse arrow and the window moves upwards. Sometimes it partly hides behind the menu.

You have to hit Ctrl-Shift-M again to bring it to the front as a separate window, in which case you can drag it around. However, if you try to close the separate window it docks in the upper corner again. Resetting positions of secondary windows does not seem to help.

michaelm75au -> RE: Separate Message Log Problem (3/14/2020 3:38:11 AM)

The first image is the normal log window, but it should be docked to the bottom of the main screen, not part way up the screen.

miller7219 -> RE: Separate Message Log Problem (3/14/2020 4:04:06 AM)

Seems to work for me. I've done the following many times with new version and have no problems now:

1. Select Message log in Separate Window from View pull down menu
2. Drag separate message log window to 2nd monitor
3. Click "Switch to Raw Text View" on the Message Log window
4. Click "X" to exit the Window Log

Window returns to docked bar in the bottom left corner of main screen game window every time.

Can anyone confirm the same successful results?

------------------------------------------
HOWEVER!

I don't know if these a new problems with 1134.3 or if I just never noticed them with the prior version, but try these steps and see what happens:

Variation#1

1. Expand the docked/attached message log in the bottom left corner of the main game window
2. Select Message log in Separate Window from View pull down menu
3. Click "X" to exit the Window Log

The separate mission log window returns to bar in expanded format. Click to close the expanded docked message log and watch what happens. It minimizes to bar mid-way up the main game window on the left of screen. Resetting secondary windows will NOT fix this. You have to exit Command entirely and restart.

Variation#2

1. Expand the docked/attached message log in the bottom left corner of the main game window
2. Select Message log in Separate Window from View pull down menu
3. Click "-" to minimize the Window Log

The separate mission log window disappears (doesn't minimize and return to docked position in bottom left corner, it just disappears). It seems the separate mission log window moves behind the main screen window and if you minimize and the maximize the entire Command program the separate mission log window returns....but it won't dock when the "-" (minimize) button is used. Resetting secondary windows will NOT fix this. You have to exit Command entirely and restart.

Can anyone else confirm both of these behaviors?
