cantona2 -> Question about ship upgrades? (2/15/2020 1:25:19 PM)

I am currently playing the 1st January 1942 turn, still to send to my opponent and there are a number of ships due an upgrade. Most of them are in port awaiting said update. After running the 31-12-41 replay I did not get the message 'XXXX starting refit at ...'

Does this happen once I run the 1-1-42 replay, ie next turn?

I am a bit rusty just having come back to the game and I cannot remember when the 1/42 upgrades kick in.

Thanks

Any ship that has upgrade turned on and eligible to upgrade, will do so on the first day of the month. Tenders will need to unload first. For some upgrades you will need to make sure the port is the right size....GP

It appears that there is a certain "unknown" factor (read "dice roll") at play because not all ships that are "eligible" on the first day of the month actually get their upgrade on that day (given what GP says about the other factors such as the right size shipyard, etc. are met). I've often had such vessels put into the "yard" for upgrade a day or two, or more, after the first available date for that upgrade. Alfred might have more definitive information about this "factor".

Depending upon ship repairs there, you might want to go to the ships and take them out of shipyard mode. Put them into pierside mode.

Perhaps the title should have been "War in the (uncertain) Pacific".

I wouldn't have it any other way; keeps all us armchair Admirals on our proverbial toes.

That can be a problem for some of us . . .

I could post a picture but someone doesn't like looking at that.

Ships duly began thier upgrades this last turn including the BB Colorado in Seattle's drydock

Just an FYI. In most cases ships undergoing an 'upgrade' may be removed from drydock and placed in pierside mode. Important if you need the shipyard space.

The upgrades become available on the first day of the month. But the game doesn't show the ship upgrade happening at the start of the turn, it will show it entering upgrade at the end of the turn and then will deduct one day of the upgrade for the ship being upgraded on day one.
The important thing is that the ship must be disbanded in port and eligible to upgrade for the ENTIRE day - i.e. it must disband in port the day before its upgrade starts. I am unsure if disbanding the ship at the beginning of the day during turn setup will count as being in port all day. IIRC, it does not.
