Ormand -> France fights to the last man! (2/17/2020 1:52:33 AM)

I have a game vs AI (1.00.06) where I have captured every French city and the French government has gone into exile. Yet there are French troops running around the countryside and manning the Maginot Line. The morale is 2 and all I get is that France is willing to negotiate a surrender, which brings on Vichy. In an earlier game, at this point France collapsed, the French troops disappeared and all the the French territory was mine. Is this as intended?

I had a rather successful campaign so I wanted to see what would happen without Vichy. But in this case, there would be no point in not accepting surrender as it will take forever to track down the last remaining units.

Technically, the .exe is 1.00.06 and the scenario files are 1.00.05h4 (I couldn't get those files to download. I might also suggest that the startup splash screen (and not the loader) display the current version - I can't see it anywhere.

Did you take Metz? You need to take all the production cities in mainland France to force basically an unconditional surrender. Put up a screen shot if you like.

Yes, I believe that I taken everything. Actually, Metz was the first as it was left open, and why I decided to try. I shot a mech unit in to take it, and then I also occupied Lyon and Vichy quickly with panzer corps as they were also left open. Here is the map: (edit this is after three turns running around scooping up cities as well).

I would also suggest something for the AI to consider. When overrunning a country like France, there is a need to move the air up to be able to get strikes in. A player might get careless and leave an air unit "exposed", i.e., close to an enemy unit and not protected. The thing is that logically, moving a unit forward to capture the hex will do nothing to stabilize the line, but would do great harm to the enemy as they air units would be lost. I found myself in the odd position of having to move the air up but also needing push the infantry up. I found it difficult to do carefully, and I am pretty sure a human player would have punished me. (OK this was on "historical" level).

That's a map flub on my part. Algiers and Damascus shouldn't be morale locations. I'll fix that.

Sounds like this is an issue with 1.06. If so, will the fix, once posted, be picked up by an existing game?

I ask as I just started a new game with 1.06 against an opponent and we'll restart if needed to pickup the fix.

I think I can see a point for having Algiers and Damascus as manpower/morale centers, much like Jerusalem is for the UK and Tripoli is for Italy. Losing them would affect national morale, and they are, in principle, a pool of manpower. But, they shouldn't affect whether the nation collapses or not. For Jerusalem (and Alexandria and Cairo) it doesn't really matter since the UK will never surrender.

bump...Alvaro - just wondering if we are safe continuing with the current 1.06 as it relates to France surrendering or if we should wait for a new version and restart.

I'm posting the new new new version today.

Ok. Sounds like we should hold off and restart.

He could just sell all the French units...
