When I first got my hands on Command, I dived straight into this scenario. I tried it a couple of times and needless to say, I failed miserably each time as I did not know what the heck was going on, and how deep the mechanics of ASW are. So, I went and did all the other in game tutorials before attempting this again. I thought it would be good for me to do an AAR so that I can learn from my mistakes, and for other newbies to this game to learn from. Without further ado.... here we go: =================================================================================== BRIEFING SECRET 010300Z JUN 85 - FLASH PRIORITY TO: COMMANDING OFFICER EXETER (D 89) FROM: CINCLANT SUBJ: NORWEGIAN SEA PATROL 1. SECRET =================================================================================== NORWEGIAN SEA PATROL Date: Saturday, 1 June 1985 Zulu: 03:00:00 Local: 03:00:00 Duration: 1 day Location: Norwegian Sea Weather: Moderate Middle Clouds 7-16 ft, Light Rain, 20C, Wind/Sea 4 Background: World War III has broken out in 1985. As commander of a small surface action group (SAG). Your job is to hunt Soviet ships and submarines and destroy them before they can get out into the Atlantic ocean, where they could threaten NATO convoys. Key Tasks: • Locate and Destroy Soviet Forces Known Enemies: • Ship - BPK Kresta II [Pr.1134A Berkut A] - BPK Kashin Mod [Pr.61M] - SKR Krivak II [Pr.1135 Burevestnik-M] • Submarine - PLA-671RTM Victor III [Shchuka] • Aircraft - Ka-25BSh Hormone A Intelligence: A small SAG and one or two SSNs or SSGNs Available Assets • Ship - x1 D 89 Exeter [Type 42 Batch 2] - x1 F 207 Bremen [Type F122] - x1 F 807 Kortenaer • Aircraft - x1 Wasp HAS/.1 - x1 Lynx SH-14B [Mk27] - x1 Lynx Mk88 Initial Thoughts [img]https://i.imgur.com/ski3zuS.png[/img] The Exeter class was designed to provide area air defence for the task force with sonar capabilities limited to hull. The Bremen on the other hand while build for ASW, lacks a towed array. Lastly, the Kortenaer has a passive-only Towed Array Sonar system which would be helpful to detect OpFor submarines. The Viktor III has a 5nm torpedo and a 8nm torpedo with a nuclear warhead. We need to be able to detect it at least 10nm away to take it out safely. For that, I will need the Kortenaer to tow its array, probably just above the layer. Sea State 4 means that waters are pretty choppy which will provide extra acoustic cover for any submarines.
