KarlXII -> Supplies in Iraq ? (2/20/2020 5:16:16 PM)

I have invaded Iraq through soviet union and Iran and taken all ports around the persian gulf and I have supply lines back through Tehran and the Caucasus.

But my supply network stops building up at Baghdad and there is only 1 point of supply there for several turns. Do I have a too large army there to be supplied (around 15 units) or how can I remedy that ? My plan is to attack the allied from behind to relieve the preassure on my Italian army in Libya.

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Supplies in Iraq ? (2/20/2020 6:41:33 PM)

Put up a screen display please.

KarlXII -> RE: Supplies in Iraq ? (2/20/2020 6:59:07 PM)

This is my situation

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Supplies in Iraq ? (2/20/2020 7:10:02 PM)

This is a port capacity issue. You can supply 160 supply points of units.

Just as a base you have 21 units and assuming no extra supply costs that is 630 supply cost. The tanks add more, the air adds more.

KarlXII -> RE: Supplies in Iraq ? (2/20/2020 7:24:33 PM)

Hmm....So if I removed a lot of units would the supply network expand so I can continue my offensive ?
I would really like som sort of info/help telling me units are under limited supply due to port capacity.

KarlXII -> RE: Supplies in Iraq ? (2/20/2020 7:26:34 PM)

And why donīt I get supply from my connection with Caucasus ? How do I know when the ports starts taking over regular supply networks through railroads ?

The rail lines are not connected between Persia and Iraq (at Basra if I am not mistaken).

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Supplies in Iraq ? (2/20/2020 8:38:39 PM)

They aren't connected anywhere between Peria and Iraq.

You could also buy a mountain of supply trucks. But that still isn't better than rail or port.

Remember this is a vast desert. Moving supplies around back then wasn't easy. Well what about Libya you ask. They used barges to run supplies up the coast as well as trucks.

KarlXII -> RE: Supplies in Iraq ? (2/23/2020 8:03:46 AM)

Ok thanks. I now have withdrawn a third of my force and see the supply network growing again. I would really like som coloring on the supply map or units showing that the area are not receiving enough supplies or perhaps the ports being colored to show they are supplying at their maximum rate and still cannot supply the demand. It would help a lot.

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Supplies in Iraq ? (2/23/2020 1:51:43 PM)

If your ports show 0 stockpile that's you hint. But I'll see what I can do

KarlXII -> RE: Supplies in Iraq ? (2/23/2020 4:31:19 PM)

Hmm....Where can I see the stockpile ? Is it the icon right to the naval anchor ? In that case it shows 5,8,9 in Kuwait, Basra and Bandar respectively. Just like any other inland cities.

KarlXII -> RE: Supplies in Iraq ? (2/23/2020 4:33:54 PM)

In Tobruk and Benghasi when hitting the (S)upply key the ports are blue and I see Port Supply in upper right corner of the information bar. But no such text is visible in the ports in the Persian Gulf.

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Supplies in Iraq ? (2/23/2020 11:35:59 PM)

In the information panel is will say Port Supply :"supply" of "maxSupplyStockpile" when you hover over a port.

KarlXII -> RE: Supplies in Iraq ? (2/24/2020 6:06:03 AM)

Most of the time that information is not visible in the three Persian Gulf Ports. It says "Urban Supply" and only once have I seen it changed to Port Supply. Does that depend on the weather or seasons ?

LiquidSky -> RE: Supplies in Iraq ? (2/24/2020 7:55:09 AM)

When you put your cursor over a hex, you get an info box in the bottom left corner of the map.

In it you can see who owns it, the hex number...stuff like that. What it also says is Port Supply:n 0: of 80

In this case it means that Tobruk can supply 80 strength points worth of units. As the port happens to be cut off, it's mostly at 0 because the unit in Tobruk is eating more supply then what is getting in.

Note that it does not give you this information if it is an enemy hex. Also if the port is hooked into a primary supply source, then it won't have any port supply. (doesn't need it then)

I have not fought in the persian gulf so I am not aware of any specifics for those ports...but these are the general rules.

KarlXII -> RE: Supplies in Iraq ? (2/24/2020 8:06:53 AM)

Tobruk and Benghasi always show port supply and are blue marked when hitting the (S)upply key. But Kuwait, Basra and Bandar have only showed the blue mark once and port supply info once. Most of the time it does not show and instead of "Port supply" the text "Urban supply" is showned. How do I know if these three ports are hooked to a primary supply source when there are no connections north to Iran as stated before ? Also how can it differs that sometimes it shows port supply but most of the time Urban Supply ?

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Supplies in Iraq ? (2/24/2020 12:42:43 PM)

There is no such code that says "urban supply" in the game. So please look again and give the conditions so I can understand it better.

ago1000 -> RE: Supplies in Iraq ? (2/24/2020 8:52:48 PM)

They should always show as blue (Correction - if no rail direct to home country). The information screen will say urban port.
You know they are hooked up to a major supply source from Germany because they are getting supplies and are blue when player controlled. There is no button (like convoys) that you can click to see the route taken. Naval units transport supplies there (from Germany) and the amount of supplies is based on the port size. They will get that amount of supplies, unless interdicted by air or Naval units.

Here is a pic of a port that is getting its supply directly from Germany. The rail can be traced back to Germany (Main Supply).

ago1000 -> RE: Supplies in Iraq ? (2/24/2020 10:25:46 PM)

My apologies KarlXII,
An event in May 9th, 1941 will trigger Germany extending rail lines in Persia from Tabriz to Yerezan. Once this occurs it will make all the ports supplied from Germany. So I stand corrected, they may not always be blue. You can see from hovering my mouse over Kuwait, it's getting its supply from Main Supply.

Yes, this is how it looks for me 90% of the time I check. Urban Port, Main Supply. Does this mean my supply lines will never extend after Baghdad. It seems my supply lines are shrinking and expanding every turn but will never extend a few hexes from Baghdad so I can never make an offensive into Syria or Palestine ?

Why does not my rail from Basra to Baghdad expand to full supply ? Does germany not convert railhexes anymore ?

Off-topic: How do you include images which are only 200 kb ? I have it hard to compress images even if I compress them online.

Does this mean my supply lines will never extend after Baghdad?
If Iran surrendered, supply lines extend to the borders. At least they did for me. Until then, you are on port supply and I'm guessing that's why your supply lines are shrinking and expanding. I usually use armor to cross quickly.

Why does not my rail from Basra to Baghdad expand to full supply?
It is not connected by rail. It is getting full supply from the rail connected to Bandar Shapur and its area of coverage. Basra is not connected to Bandar Shapur by rail.

Off Topic: I use Photoshop to resize my images at times. I use windows snipit to capture the images.

Thanks for very thorough explanation and with all the time you put into the illustration which now makes sense.

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Supplies in Iraq ? (2/25/2020 8:41:51 PM)

Also depends of partisans appear on the rail line and cut it from a main Supply Source then it'll try to take it from a port Supply Source somewhere else

lsiquet -> RE: Supplies in Iraq ? (1/31/2022 4:43:25 PM)

Has this been changed at some point?

As far as I can tell, when Basra is in main supply (i.e. when the railway from Germany to South Persia is not interrupted), then it does not provide port supply at all. It does, however, when the railway is cut off by partisans...
