Easter80 -> Building roads and railroads by Engineer Corps making possible? (2/29/2020 8:41:00 PM)

Hi SC Team.

Is it maybe possible to set the game that Engineer Corps can build roads and railroads in the next update? Of course very slowly like building fortifications. Roads like a 4 sided protected fortification and railroads like a 5 sided protected fortification. Specially in the Ottoman Empire there where a lot of railroad buildings through the Taurus mountains and in Mesopotamia for finnishing the Baghdad Railroad. So at the start of the game there should be stationed an Engineer Corps at every end of a railroad in the Ottoman Empire, after making a decision to spend money for stationing those Engineer Corps going into action.

With best regards.

That's a tricky one as the AI would need to be competent in this as well. It's been on the list of possible ideas for quite some time and a reminder here to consider it again time provided on our end.

Building bridges/pontoons and blowing up bridges might be a cool idea...

Thank you for your answer Mr. Carter.

Indeed, Tanaka. I didn't think about that before. Would be great, if introduced.

The U.S. 12th Engineers (Light Railway) in WWI built about 7km (~ 4 miles) of mainline track in support of the British 5th Army, along with a lot of narrow gauge track to facilitate movement of munitions and provisions; they later did similar operations for the U.S. 1st Army. Not sure how this would translate to Strategic Command, other than, perhaps, repairing damaged track, but then track doesn't really get damaged in the game does it?

Lots of footage of narrow-gauge line laid behind the lines for hauling ammo and other things but this isn’t really the scale at which SC operates. In terms of this era there’s some big ones that come to mind: Berlin to Baghdad (never completed but the main link between Germany and the Ottomans), the Hejaz railway (the line that TE Lawrence made his name attacking), and the Trans Siberian (the line along which the Czech Legion made its fighting withdrawal). But were any of these built on the time scale that the game operates on?

Similarly, the big defence line that was built during the war was the Hindenburg line, but few other were built in this fashion and if the AI can’t build them there is little point having them as they simply provide another advantage to the player.

Yes about Berlin to Baghdad railroad Ottoman government make compromises to Deutsche Bank. Railround around 20 km perimetre Mosul all the subterrain resources goes to bank also. My idea about this railroad project is if Germany has won WW1 Ottomans will be a colonial state despite the same side.
