AFIntel -> Bug with "Available aircraft" resetting after game save (3/3/2020 3:26:50 AM)

Howdy,

I seem to remember this bug from waaaaay back (no, really! Like from 2006/7!). I hadn't thought about it since then, but it just cropped up again.

I'm playing '43 Campaign, Allies, 1.05 patch.

8/25/43 - I planned 8 recce missions using F-5's from 14/7 PRG, and a handful from a few other recce groups. All missions depart between 0600-0730 for targets deep in France and Germany. Standard availability numbers for these units is 11 to 12 aircraft.

I saved the game. When I reloaded it, I continued to plan missions. I noticed, however, that when I picked up where I left off in planning recce missions (also departing at about 0730), ALL the recce groups in England reset the "available aircraft" to 11 to 12 aircraft available for missions, even though 8 aircraft from 14/7 PRG were committed to missions.

I checked the "Review Missions" tab, and those missions planned prior to the game save were still listed.

In essence, it will allow me to plan 24 sorties using 12 aircraft from the 14/7 PRG (and all other recce units) all taking off within a hour and a half time frame. (As I mentioned, the earlier planned missions were deep in France and Germany with TOT of 0730-0830, so it's not a function of aircraft turnaround).

I had not seen this reported yet. Has anyone else experienced it or know about it?

I have the save game file, if that would help.

Thanks!

AFIntel

Do you mean that with this bug, more available aircraft are being created for these groups out of thin air, or is just the "available aircraft" number is not resetting?

Hello simovitch,

In essence, creating aircraft out of thin air.

As you can see in the attached photo (pardon the crappy cropping job!), I was able to use 12 F-5 airframes from the 14/7th PRG to plan 17 missions to take off within an hour and a half.

And I still left two aircraft available for this unit, so I could have planned two more missions at this time.

This was the window showing available recce aircraft for a 0600 mission when I first reloaded the game after the game save.

As you can see, the blue-highlighted units with aircraft tasked (all these missions are between 0600-0730), but all the "RDY" numbers are 11-12.

The blue-highlighted units should be showing less than that (the 14/7th PRG, for example, already had about 8 missions scheduled by this point, so their "RDY" number should be around 4).

It sounds like I'm rambling. Does what I'm saying make sense?

And how did the turn play out? Did the phantom aircraft actually fly the mission? if so did they have pilots?

AFIntel -> RE: Bug with "Available aircraft" resetting after game save (3/5/2020 3:45:10 AM)

OK, here was the setup before I ran the turn:

(For the sake of simplicity, I cancelled all other missions except for the 14/7th PRG)

Number of ready aircraft: 12
Number of sorties planned: 17
Number of aircraft left available (did not plan for missions, showed RDY): 2
Number of simultaneous sorties (acft counted airborne at one time): 12
Number of total sorties flown: 13
Number of sorties recorded to pilots: 13

When the first F-5 landed from its mission, in the next minute, the next planned mission took off (behind schedule). It was as if there was a one-minute turnaround time for the aircraft.

However, all other future missions (i.e. the missions planned after all 12 aircraft launched) did NOT fly.
